The Opening Day start will be Wainwright's third, but rain washed one out. With Chris Carpenter gone, Wainwright is the clear leader of this pitching staff. And another year from surgery, he expects to be more consistent.

Kennedy was disappointed in his 2013 season, and it motivated him throughout the offseason. He has spent the spring making sure his breaking ball is ready in April. This will be his third straight Opening Day start.

Following a season in which he had shoulder problems, Garcia reported to Spring Training healthy and looked strong in six starts. He can be a formidable No. 2 starter but will need to pitch better away from home.

Cahill reported to Spring Training having lost around 15 pounds from last season, the result of some dietary changes. Last season, he faced the Cardinals once and allowed one run over six innings, but did not get a decision.

An 18-game winner last season, Lynn is beginning his second full year in the Cardinals rotation. He has a different look this year, though, after shedding 40 pounds over the winter in an effort to improve his stamina.

McCarthy will be making his first start in a D-backs uniform after signing a two-year deal as a free agent during the offseason. McCarthy has spent the past seven years in the American League and has never faced the Cardinals.

    Injuries

    Day-to-day

    15-day DL

    Jason Motte
Mar 29 - As expected the Cardinals have placed closer Jason Motte on the disabled list with a strained right elbow.
Motte complained of soreness after last Thursday’s game and there’s no timetable for his return, with the Cardinals set to use Mitchell Boggs as their fill-in closer.
    NBC Sports

    David Freese
Mar 26 - JUPITER, Fl (Baseball StL) – The St. Louis Cardinals announced Tuesday they will place third baseman David Freese on the 15-day disabled list.
The move will be retroactively dated to March 23. Freese, who is recovering from lower back pain, appeared in 12 spring games, batting .267 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.
The Cardinals also announced they have optioned left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman to the Memphis (AAA) roster and recalled infielder Ryan Jackson from the Memphis roster.
    KMOV

    Rafael Furcal
Mar 7 - JUPITER, Fla. -- St. Louis shortstop Rafael Furcal will undergo ligament replacement surgery in his right elbow and expects to miss the 2013 season.
Furcal made the decision after visiting Dr. James Andrew's clinic in Pensacola, Fla., on Wednesday.

    60-day DL

    Chris Carpenter
Mar 18 - JUPITER, Fla. -- Chris Carpenter passed through St. Louis Cardinals camp on Monday five weeks after leaving Jupiter because of physical issues that prevented him from pitching. He sounded more convinced than ever that his major league career is finished.
Carpenter, 37, continues to be bothered by numbness in his right hand and arm and a mysterious weakness in his shoulder. At the moment, he is focused less on a return to baseball than seeking peace of mind that his current issues won't be a lifelong concern.

I want the Astros to do really well just because everyone sees them as so bad as if we have only been able to win the number of games we have one because of them.
