2 things I don't understand: why the official title is such a big deal, and why it took so damn long for this to happen in the first place...

I really, really, don't care. But it's a big thing for some.

Wright says no "C" on his jersey. "The uniform is uniform for a reason." #Mets
    Thank God.

That C is stupid, so that is good.

I don't get why its that big of a deal either. It's more of a honorary thing...but I guess nice for Wright to have people think of him as a captain.

I think the delay was b/c Wright wanted to make sure it was something his teammates were in favor of (not something just decided by the FO when he signed the deal). So they waited until ST, and then Wright was away at the WBC, etc.

I'm glad they named him captain, I just don't think it makes much of a difference because the fact is, he's been the default captain for years now.

It makes zero difference, has zero impact. David Wright is no more the team captain this year than he was last year or the year before.

But i guess when you're heading into a season with no outfield and a dubious bullpen, you gotta do something to shift the conversation to something positive. So you annoint your best player as the "Team Captain" as though it somehow means something.

Tell you what? How about you hold off on the title and get someone to play some freaking outfield behind him?

    Just a thought.

This is what you don't understand. Making Wright the captain will change everything. The team can now concentrate on winning. The outfielders will try so much harder now that they have a captain to rally behind. The pitchers will try harder. Even Ollie Perez will beg to come back.

Wright as captain = championship in 2013. Get on the ****ing bus or get run over by it.

I like the move. It's a nice honor for a fan favorite, a good player and a good guy. It comes at a time when we will be seeing a lot of young guys on the team. A captain could be helpful. He's the one breath of fresh air on the team. One of the few guys that I always stop what I am doing and watch his at bats. I like that he isn't wearing the "C". That always looked a little silly on a BB uniform.

    Have they raised ticket prices????

What was it that Manuel used to say...what was his catchphrase again?

It was something like "Gangsta's on the bus, _______ ______ ______"?

No point in naming Wright captain if he wasn't under a long term contract.
Decision was made by ownership and management at the time of the signing. However, Wright stated he wanted the approval of his teammates.
