    Flyers Practice Thread

Figured this would be a good spot to talk about practice days or off days so we don't have to clutter other threads with this stuff or start game threads too early.

If no one likes the idea, the thread can be closed. Just figured it would be easier.

So as of practice today, Hartnell is still down on a line with Rusty and Rinaldo. He has apparently made his way into Lavy's doghouse.

Read has taken his place on the top line.

    via Twitter:
“@davegisaac: Forwards: 24-28-93; 12-10-17; 19-26-36; 37-14-48” I'm on vacation for a few days, but here were odd lines today.

now this is a first. Danny B down on the 4th line with Couts and Harry Z.

looks like Danny B has made his way to the doghouse finally. Talbot not being there may have something to do with this, but it's interesting nonetheless.

It's still odd though. Maybe Lavi thinks Couts and Briere can end each others slumps. All in all I like those lines though.

like seeing danny off that 2nd line.

surprisingly like seeing that 3rd line bruiser line lol.....

and that 4th line is by far the best 4th line in the nhl lol...

looks like were looking for quick fast line changes more spread out ice time...

Something has to be done about Briere, Couturier, and Hartnell. Should have just put the 3 of them on a line and be done with it.... Really interested about what is going on with Talbot. The first game that he looks like he did last season, then he misses the next practice without any word on injury... it sounds like a trade to me. Either that or personal issues.

You have to think that somewhere in the bowels of the Vorhees practice center that Clarkie is giving Homer the "See, I told you not bring in Russians to Philly"

yeah, i'd be good with that, too. i'd like to see a real shift in the line combinations. something like:

    talbot - giroux - voracek
    rinaldo - schenn - simmonds
    hartnell - couturier - read
    gagne - briere - zolnierczyk

i like talbot on giroux's wing right now because i think giroux's game is lacking an edge that he would benefit from talbot mucking the game up.
i like rinaldo with schenn and simmonds because that's a really physical line and i think schenn and simmonds would thrive playing that style.
i like hartnell and read with couturier because something has to be done to get couturier going offensively.

and then in the 3rd period when the flyers need a goal, they could stack the lines back up and go with something like:
    hartnell - giroux - voracek
    read - schenn - simmonds
    gagne - couturier - briere

the flyers are not a good team, and they're not going to be a good team, but at least they'd be more interesting to watch if they gooned it up a bit.

While your comment is probably a little tongue in cheek on the "gooning it up", I think if you take a step less than that the concept has merit. I'm still one of those people that believes having a few guys who are little bit of some bad a**es can change the dynamic of a team. Now I get the side that worries about being big and slow and less skilled and how that's not the best way to go in today's game that's more predicated on speed.

As much as we want to think otherwise that guys don't really get bothered by it, I think there is still very much an element of an edge that physical force and intimidation plays. Other than a couple guys who hit and mix it up a bit our overall roster doesn't fit into the "difficult to play against" category.

I'm not advocating going after big slow guys who can't skate......but while we search for the "what is wrong with these guys, they should be better than what they are" answers.........i'm just thinking that adding a guy or two with some snarl that can back it up when they need to might not be a bad thing for this squad.

with Talbot back at practice today, new line combos are:

    Read - Giroux - Voracek

    Hartnell - Briere - Talbot

    Gagne - Schenn - Simmonds

    Fedotenko - Couturier - Rinaldo

looks like Read is up top to stay (for now anyway). guessing they are trying to get some more speed up top, along with a better shooter.

Talbot being on the 2nd line is a testament to his mini hot streak as of late (3 goals in last 4 games). maybe also trying to get old chemistry back with Hartnell and Briere, given the two have struggled all year.

    idk, could work, could fail.

i'll give them one thing: these lines always look good on paper; just a matter of them finally clicking.

^I know you probably just put them in any order, but when it comes to playing time, I hope the Schenn line would be getting more time than Briere's, or at least the same amount of time. While Schenn and Simmonds have cooled off, at least they've done something this year.

Side note: good to see Briere back in the middle. I wonder if that was the big problem the whole time?

panotch mentioned schenn and couts's lines as "the last two lines". I assumed that meant that those were the third and fourth lines.

Not saying i agree. Then again having briere as the 3rd line center isnt exactly ideal. Playing time isnt a factor here though. Its about matchups.
