Trade Deadline - 3 April (2 pm CST)

Think anything gets done before the deadline? I would assume we would be buyers instead of sellers this year.

What do people think we need to add? And would a Heatley trade be out of the question?

We won't trade Heatley unless it is part of a package to get a better player, and that isn't going to happen. We are buying at the deadline, not selling.

Heatley isnt going anywhere fortunately/unfortunately with the new cap teams cant take him. I do expect us to be buyers but I also expect PMB to be moved before the deadline.

Yeah, if we can get a decent prospect or two for PMB that would be good. I hardly consider trading PMB as selling, even though he's been playing a little better as of late.

With Zucker stepping up, we really wouldn't be losing anything by trading PMB. I would love it if we could package him with prospect and bring back another pure scorer. I could also see us standing pat just because of the cap situation next year.

On a completely seperate note, I wouldn't mind adding someone like Dan Boyle. He's a little long in the tooth but could bring some stability to our non Suter/Brodin defensive pairings (if we could afford it of course).

Anyone think a team like the isles, with a lot of cap space, might bite on Heatley? They've got room to spare this year and next.

I don't think we get rid of Heatley before the deadline, he's a big reason we are where we are right now. I wouldn't mind unloading that contract for someone like Okposo but I'm not sure the Isles wouldn't like that one too much. Maybe if it was the Heatley of years past.

Not really. Islanders have a lot of prospects whom I would imagine they rather get the time to then Heatley. Plus they dont really have a window for winning a cup that would spark a trade like getting a Heatley.

Opps, I meant to put wouldn't instead of would. I'll go ahead and edit that.

I thin we attempt to get a 4, 5 or 6 D-man. Teams usually want young talent in return for established players, so I think it would take maybe one of our mid tier prospects like Johann Larrson just to get a a 4 or 5 D-man.

I like our farm right now, but a mistake I see too often with Minnesota teams, is them holding on to all their young players with unrealistic thoughts that every one of them will become stars. We have some blue chip prospects like Granlund, Brodin and Coyle that should be untouchable...but then we have guys like Larsson, Phillips, Bulmer, Haula...and abnout 5 other guys that are solid, but mid tier type prospects...those are the guys we should cash in on...Not saying that we trade all of them, as they will add good depth eventually, and some may even exceed expectations (see Jason Zucker), but if you can fill a need with an established player for a mid tier prospect...you have to go for it, especially with the numerous mid tier prospects we have.

Although I will say about the Islanders, El Nino did ask for a trade from them earlier this year for not getting a shot in the NHL. Man what I would give to add him to our prospects hah. A future line of Nino-Granlund-Coyle is really scary.

I would almost put Larsson in to the group with Zucker, Granlund, Brodin, and Coyle; I wouldn't move him for a 4-5 D man.

What do you guys think about Mike Smith? I've heard he's available, we could use the depth at goalie going in to the playoffs, he will probably be cheaper to sign than Backstrom. Thoughts?

Edit: Just realized he's on the IR

We acquired Ryan Clowe for Marco Scandella, our 3rd round pick and a conditional 5th if we make the WCF
