    Coughlin calls out JPP..

Anytime a coach says negative stuff about a player to the media publicly, IMO thats calling him out. Recently Coughlin said he is very confused why JPP didn't play well last season, and he also said he came in big.. Further elaborated and said not body fat big, just big..

There are going to be both sides to this argument so lets try to respect each others opinions..

Me personally I don't like the fact that Coughlin said this stuff publicy, **** like this needs to stay in house. But it makes me wonder maybe JPP isn't exactly responding to them, so maybe that's why he said this publicy to put it out there for everyone.. We all know Coughlin can rub people the wrong way and although he's gotten much better he still has it in him.. Maybe JPP isn't happy with the Fewell.. JPP and Osi both eluded to the lack of pass rush was due to scheme and I can't disagree with that. He had them playing a lot of 2 gap and read and react, putting the D line on their heels rather then going at it..

Now as far as JPP's play goes obviously it wasn't up to expectations.. Not even close.. BUT he also received a lot more attention and I'm sure the league went to school on him in the offseason.

1 thing I really want to point out, he started the season really well and was getting in the backfield A LOT but was getting held like crazy.. Maybe that got in his head??

A lot of people think he was lazy last season and obviously Couglin feels the same.. I do agree to a extent.. Question is do we get the JPP we love next season or does this turn JPP off? He's still a young kid so I'm fine with him having to be pushed a bit but to me this year is the year he needs to stand up, be a man and leader for this team dammit!

So anyway discuss, please remember it's ok to agree to disagree and respect everyone's opinions..

Coughlins got his reasons and seems to usually have good knowledge of what makes his players tick possibly due to those leadership roles thing he had in locker room/house.

Maybe this is what'll push JPP ..I think he was going o rebound anyway..tuck I'm worried about

I think Tuck really cares and is trying hard, I just don't think he has it anymore wich is why it's worries me that much more..

I dont see how anything will change this year. last year every team doubled him and badicially dared the other guys to step up and beat their 1v1s and they couldnt. Now we have less studs at DE so it cpuld get worse this year.

Dominant De's beat double teams.. So here's the question.. was he lazy or is he just not as good as we thought?

I wouldn't overthink it. They asked a question and he answered off the top of his head. Let's see how he rebounds this year cause if he disappears again it could really kill this d.

That's exactly why I'm over thinking it, we need JPP to get back to dominance, he's crucial to this teams success..

Good for Coughlin. Some of those lockroom shots indicated quite a difference in the size of JPP's gut.

you might be reaching here bro.

i'm pretty sure this isn't the first time JPP has heard that coming from coughlin. when i saw JPP at camp last year, the boy WAS huge. especially in the lower body. he couldn't do a single lower limb stretch by himself. he had to have a trainer come out every time. every time the trainer came out, coughlin would walked over to inspect and he had something to say every time. don't know what it was and nearly impossible to tell by his face; i would say he was mad but he always looks pissed.

JPP's ineffectiveness could very well have been a combination of everything: lazy, fat, double teams, holding, etc. He was one of the most dissapointing players last year, along with Webster.

I do agree, early on in the year he was pushing the pile and getting penetration, but he was being held almost every possesion. After that, it was like he wasn't even present. We also have to consider the level of competition as well. The Giants played against some pretty solid OLs last year.

Also, due to the lack of blitzing from the defense, teams can concentrate on the DL. I think that if Fewell unleashed a more aggressive defense, that everyone on the DL would benefit as the OL won't know where the pressure will be coming from. An example of this, hard to make anyone believe that you will blitz your CB, when Prince and Webster are playing 10 yards off the WR. Mix it up and they will have the element of surprise as a weapon.

JPP was lazy. The player I saw the first 2 years had a nonstop motor and thats what made him great. A non stop motor with that type of athleticism you don't even need to have great moves. Non stop effort, while expected from everyone on every play (which never happens), is one of the most underrated attributes in a DE. He sucked last year and it was his fault. He thought he was better than he was. Its a shame.
