Aaron Rodgers/Green Bay working on extension said to be worth $25 million a year

According to Adam Schefter the extension is rumored to be in the neighborhood of 4-year $100 million which would be worth $25 million per year. It would put him with the Packers until he is 35.

I just find it funny because back when Flacco signed that deal you had guys on here saying it was a terrible deal and that they drastically overpaid because guys wouldn't get that money in the future. One guy even said that the NFL would never see a player get a deal worth $25 million a year. Well what about a month later...

Yeah someone posted bout this in our forum. Apparently the 25 mil wouldn't start till after the 2 years he has remaining on his current contract. The salary cap will have increased some by then as well.

Either way he deserves every penny imo.

Rodgers could get way more than 4/$100 mil if he wanted to.

Something else to keep in mind here is how deals like this are gonna influence the franchise tag for teams with young quarterbacks. Obviously you would want to keep a young guy but if it gets to where the franchise tag number is $20 million....

I don't know.... You have to think that is considerably more per season than the next closest quarterback. I mean there intention is to make this deal with the consideration that deals are gonna go higher in the future so that they are doing it now but have him still making top quarterback money near the end of the deal.

I will say this props to Green Bay for realizing they have one of the best players in the league and making the commitment to pay him what he is worth and keep him on the team.

Salary cap needs to go up or these players salaries need to go down. Otherwise we will have a team full of 5 good players and the rest mediocre.

Maybe they have some cap available (about $20 mil) and want to give some signing bonus now and next year? Maybe that makes it possible?

That's assuming the cap stays at what it is now, which is doubtful. Any of you dweebs know the average percentage increase the cap rises each year?

I agree something is gonna have to change.... You are gonna start to have a ton of pissed off players as all these other position players have seen their salaries go down across the board and these quarterbacks are getting gigantic contracts.

Not at all. That contract was all smoke and mirrors. It was pretty much a 3-year deal worth $12-15 million a year. With all the insane money loaded into the back years which he will almost surely never see....

lol i know i was just goofing with that other dude. Rodgers is not going to be over paid. Im sure if Brady and Peyton were in their prime right now they would be getting the same thing.

This dweeb knows that it didn't go up to amount for jack **** the last several years....

    2008 - $116 million
    2009 - $128 million
    2010 - Uncapped CBA
    2011 - $120 million
    2012 - $120.6 million
    2013 - $123 million

Hell the salary cap is less this year than it was in 2009.... That is what a 5% increase in the last 6 years LOL
