    Wild MVP thus far?

over half way through the season...who is the MVP?

This thread is inspired by Michael Russo, who claims it is Matt Cullen.

    In a full season...

Cullen would be on pace for a 54 point season...best in his career
    Koivu on pace for 69
Parise on pace for 66 (35 goals)
Suter on pace for 66...best in career...by far

Good candidates. Cullen putting up fantastic numbers, even though he is playing primarily on the third line, and now second...put him with Parise, and you have to wonder what his offensive production would be. Koivu is doing a solid job centering the 1st line, also not factored in, is his excellent two way play. Parise is our best offensive player, and scoring goals...I go with Suter though. He has been terrific...putting up great offensive numbers, while still being the best defender on the team as well.

for the record, right now, I would go Suter #1, Parise #2, Cullen #3, Koivu #4...and it is no knock to Koivu, just that Suter and Parise have more of an impact, and Cullen has been terrific.

What about Backstrom? For most of the year we've struggled to score goals and Backs has kept us in those games. Even allowed us to win a few we shouldn't have won. He may not be MVP but should get consideration.

hmmm, yeah, I should have put Backstrom in the vote. dammit.

On a national scale though, Backstrom is very middle of the pack...18th in save percentage, 13th in GAA

To be honest it's hard to pick one guy, the whole team is playing well. Everyone has picked up their game. Cullen and Setoguchi stand out over the last 10 or so games though. Seems like their play picked up when Zucker came up, might have helped seeing a hungry player flying around the ice. Suter has really stepped up his game too.

Uhmmm I'm going Brodin...we went from having one of the worst D's on paper and the biggest concern coming into the season to being one of the better/best defensive teams and your joking yourself if you don't think that is because of Brodin. Without him Suter can't play his game as well, and we don't have another guy that can eat 25 mins a night like Brodin can. There are very few D in the NHL right now that I take over Brodin, I'm talking maybe 15ish

I never said that...I said without Brodin Suter isnt the player he is. The biggest MVP, the player who has made the most impact to the entire team has been Brodin. Becuase no one expected this kid to come in play 25 mins and be an absolute STUD at 19 y/o. I watched him in person many time in Europe and I didnt think he would be NHL ready this year. He has freed up Suter to play the type of game he played in Nash instead of how he was playing before Brodin a stay at home and fix everyone's **** ups. Thats also why Suters point totals have risen along with his play. Suter is a great player better then Brodin but Brodin is his safety valve letting him play his game. That also lets Gilbert play on the second unit where he was and still is excelling because thats his natural role and it got ride of this Spurgeon is top pairing material should be with Suter non sense and put him in the bottom 3 where he belongs. Not ragging on him he is a good 4-6 but thats his ceiling to me atm. At the beginning of the season I was saying man oh man did we overpay this Suter guy...now that he has a reliable all star caliber (yep I said it) D next to him and Suter can play his game he is worth every penny imo.

In essence what I am saying is its Brodin who changed an ENTIRE facet of our game. Yes Backstrom has played well and Parise and Koivu are putting up points. But neither of those guys have risen their unit to one of the tops in the league. Backstrom is in the middle of the pack and until recently we had the usually wild offense of 2g per game. We knew Suter was going to help the D but after him we had no one until Brodin came along. For these reasons, Brodin is this teams MVP imo.

Suter had 9 points in his first 17 games when he had Spurg/Gilbert/Brodin mix and matching at D with him. Once it became a mainstay of Brodin and Suter he now has 14 points in ten games with Brodin glued to his side.

Take away my Swedish colored lenses its Suter, Backstrom, Parise, Brodin. Suter is playing at a Norris level his only competition this year is Letang. Backstrom is playing for another 6m contract which we cant give him. Parise is this teams engine and heart sorry Koivu. And Brodin is the savior of what I thought was going to be another year of terrible D even though our D is still only good at best.

Suter is playing great but his -2 doesn't help his chances at any post season awards.

It will come around. That coupled with his TOI he will at least be in top 3 if it were to end today.
