    Mets opening day 25

Well a few things are becoming clear as opening day approaches, here's my take on the 25 that go north.
SP-Santana(or replacement, if on DL, starter isn't needed till 4/10. Likely Hefner.)
    SP-Harvey
    SP-Neise
    SP-Marcum
    SP-Gee

    RP-Parnell(closer)
    RP-Edgin
    RP-Lyon
    RP-Familia
    RP-Hawkins
    RP-Atchison
    RP-Rice or Burke or Feliciano

    C-Buck
    C-Recker
    1B-Davis
    2B-Murphy
    3B-Wright
    SS-Tejada
    OF-Duda
    OF-Byrd
    OF-Cowgill
    OF-Valdespin
    IF/OF-(3 Spots)Turner/Nieuwenhuis/Quintanillla/Bixler/Baxter/Den Dekker

Santana ain't starting opening day and Harvey is lookiing damned good.

I say we start Harvey even though Harvey is a funny name and I have a friend Shirley who's bigger than you.

Den dekker and baxter (not bixler) and hicks don't make the team. Dd needs to prove he can hit for average and cut down on strikeouts. Valdespin is a bit shaky on defense but he has pop and we need that....homering off Papelbon and Verlander is impressive. Given 400 at bats he could pop 18 homers 70 rbi and. 275 and added to Byrd 8 20 .265 to give us enough production to be competitive. Quintinilla has hit and looked good defensively. IF Feliciano isn't ready Rice will make the team and I see Burke getting the nod ovrr Familia who needs better command of his third pitch...that's what AAA is for.

Lol, i left Baxter off by accident, it's probably because I don't think much of him, but I will add him. But I meant to include Bixler, he's had a great spring and he can play every position. I din't include Hicks because I think he's played himself out of a job.

You don't need a third pitch as a reliever.

Here is my two cents if we carry 13 position players. I formatted it as a Depth Chart with the players listed in the order I think they will be chosen for playing time there.

    Catcher: Buck, Recker

    1st: Davis, Duda, Lutz, Murphy

    2nd:Murphy, Valdepsin, Quintinilla

    SS: Tejada, Quintinilla

    3b:Wright, Lutz, Murphy

    LF: Byrd, Duda

    CF: Cowgill, Valdespin

    RF: Valdespin, Cowgill, Byrd

I think this type of roster will have enough versatility that there will be plenty of playing time going around for everyone but Quintinilla and Recker. We need both of them because we have no other options to back up Tejada and Buck.

If all of the outfielders are doing great at the plate and Wright needs a day off, then I can picture Murphy sliding to third, while Valdespin mans second.

I just think Lutz is a better hitter than anyone else in camp vying for a bench spot, which is unfortunate for Turner because he is irrelevant by having Valdespin, Quintinilla, and Lutz on the roster.

I really can't picture Baxter or Kirk making this team. Unless Kirk tears it up in Triple A, we may not see him again especially if den Dekker explodes like he did in Double A last year to supplant either Duda or the Byrd - which I highly doubt since bird will be open to waiver claims.

We all know d'Arnaud will be slotting in front of Buck in June to bump Recker out of the pitcher.

Kinda pissed d'Arnaud isn't making it out of the gate. Also, I'd very much like Valdespin to beat out Duda. Cowgill has been amazing this spring, if he hasn't secured himself a spot TC is a moron. I wouldn't even mind Baxter over Byrd aswell, because he knows how to play defense and can get on base.

I like Bixler to make this club. Firstly he's had a great spring training so far, and he has great flexibility, he can play any position; including a decent shortstop. I like Quintanilla, but I prefer Bixler if it comes down to those 2. We need Turner for his righty bat and clutch hitting and he backs up 2nd 3rd and 1st. Baxter has a spot on this club until he loses it, because of his overall profile, so I believe he is a given. Den Dekker is obviously going down, Nieuwenhuis will probably start the year in Vegas because he has been slowed by the injury. So it will come down to. Hicks(who I believe has played himself out of a job), Bixler, Quintanilla for that final spot. This is with the assumption of Turner being in. With this scenario(and I know I will be in the minority), I like Bixler.

Is that shortstop who can't walk and chew gum still with us or has been released yet? What was his name?

Cowgill is guarenteed a spot on the roster. He's on the 40 man.
