why didnt the jets just fire rex ryan?

rex is basically entering a make the playoffs or get fired situation yet the team is being gutted and stripped of any chance it is going to have

we are rebuilding so why not fire rex and get it over with instead of publicly embrassing him for a year before doing it in january of 2014?

i love rex and would gladly keep here forever but either make a commitment to rex or fire him and let the man move on

People say he's a lame duck but that doesn't add up. Personally I don't mind Rex staying but if it were my team I would have fired him after last season.

But why would Woody keep him, eat Sparano's contract, hire a highly touted OC and hire almost an brand new coaching staff, knowing it was going to be a rebuild, and probably knowing he wasn't going to sign Revis to an extension? Why not just clean house and start over? What would be the reason for sticking with Rex for one more season. What good will that do? Especially if they were going to gut his defense.

I think Woody really likes Rex and see's something in him. And also after firing Herm and Mangini after a few seasons, I think Woody is trying to build some continuity with this franchise. That's the only thing I can think of.

Money that is owed helps rex.Rex is a huge motivator and can get players to play above their level .I like him and dont think you can do better,You just need a good supporting cast.He cannot run an offense and thats where it has failed

You guys are crazy...fire Rex? He was on the cusp of playoffs the 2 seasons he missed....

you can't just fire everyone all the time...at some point the org needs to commit stability to someone and he MIGHT be that guy...you can't fire him for 2 bad seasons...there are other ariables.

    A. You knew he was a young head coach...with that some growing pains and mistakes.
    b. Idzik benefits...bad year blamed on Rex rather on him
    c. Rex DOES need to prove it and this is the year...overcome some challenges and show promise...not,playoffs but promise...and he stays while Idzik builds team
Week 17 following JETS @ BILLS, a great friend and I got our picture taken with the only player of either side to come out and meet fans

Rex is a solid coach who players like playing for and who usually gets the most out of his players. He has his deficiencies, of course, particularly on offense but he isn't a bad coach by any means.

If it was my team, I would have liked to have gone in another direction. Bringing in fresh blood at the HC position who has an offensive background (how long has it been since we've had an offensive head coach?) like Jay Gruden.

Lets see how things play out. Depending on how much talent we can add this off-season, we should be a solid enough team this upcoming season.

...What a coordinated flop looks like...

I'm stuck in the midde. I don't like Rex because he stood by Sanchez last season. He can bring out the best in his players, but he is too nice. If it were me, he would of been fired. But I do respect the guy, he is very smart on the defensive side of the ball, on offense, he is clueless though.

I agree with you because if a new Head coach comes in , he is going to bring his own people. the best way to find out is to see how many years did Morty M get as well as other coaches. if they got 2 or more years then Rex is staying. I think Rex can develop the defense. i thin he needed help on the offense side. Sparano wasnt the answer. Morty M. has done it before. Our hands were tied based on the contracts signed. What gets me is i see Holmes is restructuring as well as Cromartie. I dont hear anything about Sanchez restructuring. Lets see what they do with Revis. With everyone leaving we should be getting a bunch of compensatory pics.

But that is why they play the games on the field my man. Did anyone really think Indy would go from 2-14 to a playoff spot. I was a Sanchez supporter, but let's be honest-- If you had had anyone last year that could cut out the 3 and 4 turnover games, the Jets probably would have been 10-6 or 11-5 last season.

Plus, let's see how some of these younger guys can do. You may be surprised!
PSD's Rich Cimini! Telling it like it is, whether you like it or not!!!

THANK YOU. Its amazing how people think this team is much worse than it actually is. We had the worst offense in the league last year and went 6-10. That is pretty damn impressive. Now we have cut a bunch of old, fading players and people are freaking out? Yeah we probably won't make the playoffs but we are forming a nice young nucleus of players in: Wilkerson, Coples, Davis and Kerley. Let me put it this way: Its a HELL of a lot easier to improve an atrocious offense than it is to improve a mediocre one. Lets wait until the games are played before we declare this a 4-12 team.

Edit: Odds are that we'll also have at least one of Ricky Sapp, Harrison, Kenrick Ellis, Stephen Hill, Antonio Allen, Josh Bush step up and be a surprise with 1 or 2 more being at least serviceable.

why not fire him? because you dont put a new HC on a team thats rebuilding when the HC in place has only 1 year left on his deal anyway. Rex has a good enough record OVERALL as HC so letting him play his final year is the only option. If the team starts turing around, then u can easily resign him long term. If not, then u just dont resign him and the team doesnt look bad.

Rex will most liekly leave next yr right along with Mark S, and hopefully rex will learn to not get too attached to his players and start looking at them as employees and not best friends who get tattoos of eachother. Id still love to hire rex as DC in 2014.. even though i like DT. We just need a new HC with some experience on BOTH sides of the ball.

Rex earned at least another year.
I like Rex. I also like that he had a harsh, reality check this year. I want to see how he returns from that.
(Much like sanchez. It's a bit eerie how parallel their carrers have run)

I don't think we are as bad as many think. If we can draft well and get a couple guys via fa, I will be very curious how Rex does.
It also makes no sense to fire him if the FO thinks we are going into a crappy season, like many here think. What coach would want to come in for the demolition? New HCs want to come in when you've got the foundation and frame solid.
