I'm just having a problem looking at the contract, and convincing myself that Joe's worth it. Not only that they look like they're going to need to rebuild really soon.

thats because you are looking to much into it. its a 3 year deal, at manageable numbers. after that he'll be cut if he doesnt restructure

Didn't you guys lose like 5-6 starters to FA and retirement?

Don't think you guys are going very far for a bit.

average over life of the contract yes, actual money being paid per season no. his cap number is around 7 million this year for example

lost lewis (who missed most of the year anyway), kruger (who was not a starter), ellerbe (who was a started because of mcclain and lewis injuries), boldin, and pollard so far. given age, money and abiltiy, all were replaceable

It won't be anytime soon, but they are a well run team so maybe. Brady and Manning will be gone soon.

Do you not realize this is the time when the doomsday people predict your teams' total destruction because they've lost a few players...even though free agency has just started and we haven't even had the draft yet?

They lost a lot of talent though. They didn't lose a few nobodies, they lost playmakers.

never say never!! but boy, they lost what, 5 starters now? that's tough! My guess is they are going to have a hard time even making the playoffs next year. but another superbowl in the future is impossible to predict.
