    BRYZ The leader?

    http://www.delcotimes.com/articles/2...5906602474.txt

They talked about him on daily news live today about how he is the one acting like the leader of this team and how he has been miss used this year and how the last 2 weeks he has looked flat out tired and no longer has the ability to go from post to post like he did prior.... Apparently I am not the only one that sees this.... Bryz basically said if we do not win the next 2 against the devils its over

Mark it down...back to back shutouts.

Crazy turnaround from last years postgame interviews huh? All seriousness though i mean hes right. They need to win these games plain and simple. No OT losses or reg. losses. Ws or the season is effectively over.

This is a perfect example of what happens when you have a backup that shouldnt be in the NHL

He's no Hexy or Parent. Those guys carried the load and didn't look worn out.

Never said he was.... Other factors go into it...The game was different and the teams they played on.... This team in front of Bryz has been putrid.

can't compare them to this. this is a lockout season, remember that. it makes a HUGE difference. he's been playing 3 in 4 nights most of the season.

during a normal season that doesn't occur very often.

look around the league. there isn't one goalie that has played as many games as Bryz. he needs a break in a bad way.

if this team could string more than 2 ****ing wins together, he'd have gotten more rest to this point.

hopefully they can do this so he can get some rest here soon.

He's played one more game than Rinne and Miller and both of them have better numbers than him. (And before you say how Nashville is this dominate defensive team and he's playing behind Weber, Nashville's defense as a whole this season has been sub-par and they are 30th in G/G. They are usually dominated offensively, unless their playing a team like Edmonton. Rinne has been the reason they win most of their games.)

Pekke Rinne is one of the few goaltenders in the league that you build your franchise around. Comparing Bryzgalov to him is so completely dillusional its funny and a prime example of the unrealistic expectations people have of Bryzgalov because of his contract.

I am not a huge supporter of Bryzgalov and was against signing his contract from the beginning but this using him as an excuse is just getting ridiculous. He has been completely overused and gets hung out to dry night after night. The reality is that there are maybe 3-5 goalies at most that could look good in front of this team a the the moment. We simply dont have the talent on the backend to support the offense first system we play.

This is why it was a big mistake to trade Bob without a viable back up option. Bob would of allowed them to rest Bryz a couple of more games and he wouldn't be this exhausted. I think it would of helped them win maybe 3 more games this season. This isn't even the first time I've heard about Bryz getting tired. A lot of the people in Phoenix said his playoff struggles were due to the fact that he was completely exhausted because he played close to 70 games a season. That's why this shouldn't be a surprise to the organization and shows they completely screwed up the backup situation.

As for we need to win both of the back to back, he's right.

I don't think Bryzgalov is as good as Rinne... not even close. The only goalie in the league who I'd take over Rinne is Lundqvist. The point was that there are goalies out there have played a ton of games and have looked good while doing so and it's not because of the system/team in front of them.

Bryzgalov definitely needs a better back up but he's also not worth the money or cap space. The back up situation is somewhere that Holmgren failed this off-season.

I very much doubt that you will find anyone here who believes that Bryzgalov is worth the contract he was given so that is somewhat of a mute point. The arguement that Pekke Rinne has looked good and "its not because of the system/team in front of him" is where I disagree. First off there is no point comparing Pekke Rinne to Bryzgalov as we have already determined that Rinne is in a completely different league so lets focus on Bryzgalov.

If you take Bryzgalov and put him in Nashville with Shea Weber in front of him playing their defensive system do you think his numbers dont immediately improve and he doesnt immediately look better? Nashville's defense maybe a bit underwhelming compared to last year's edition but they are still considerably better than our backend. Our defense simply doesn't have the talent or the speed to play our aggressive offense first system where everybody pinches. The fact is unless we can acquire one of those 3-5 goaltenders that can overcome bad defense than any alternative we bring in is doomed to fail. The real solution is to fix the defense from top to bottom with a mix of speed and size. In Philadelphia we also seem to go with all puckmovers and speed and get out muscled or all size and get outskated.

The SPEED. We dont have the speed on the back end. Our top 5 guys would be fine players in a 2-4 defensman roll. But together they are PYLONS. We dont have defenseman that can keep up with the transition game caused by all out offense.... teams like Pittsburgh, Bruins, and the Rangers are great at capitalizing on.

Good post. I think Bryz is a fine NHL starter when he isn't ask to do the completey ridiculous. How the Flyers thought they could get away with have Leighton as the back-up in a shortened season is just crazy...

That being said, if he starts to get some rest, he has to get better.

Completely agree. As I mentioned above this team always seems to transition year to year from huge, slow defenseman to small, puck moving defenseman and then back again. We can never seem to find that happy medium where we have our couple of puck movers that can QB the powerplay mixed in with our couple of big boys that can win the battles down low and dish out some punishment.

Trade Shattenkirk for Meszaros and Couts and that is a start.

If I were Homer I would have a 2 year plan.
Step 1 trade Mez and Couturier for Shattenkirk.
Step 2 Sign Backstorm to a 1 year deal and Chris Mason to a 2 year deal
    Step 3 Buyout Bryzgalov
    Step 4 resign Gagne

Roll with what you have next year:
    Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
    Read-Briere-Simmonds
    Gagne-Schenn-McGinn
    Talbot-Laughton-Rinaldo

    Timonen-Schenn
    Shattenkirk-Coburn
    Grossmann-Gervais

    Backstrom
    Mason

    Next year:
Step 1: Land a top goalie.... Miller, Lundquist, or Halak. I would think Miller just because I think the others get resigned.
Step 2: Land your number 1 D-man... Boyle, Phaneuf, or Markov... I would go with Markov.
Step 3: Resign Giroux, Read, Schenn, and McGinn.
Step 4: Sign scorer like Gaborik

    Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
    Read-Briere-Gaborik
    Schenn-Laughton-Simmonds
    McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo

    Markov-Schenn
    Shattenkirk-Coburn
    Grossmann-Defenseman drafted this year.

    Miller
    Mason

Now that is a SCF team.
