Most Overrated/Underrated Player By Position

Just saw something like this on HF Boards, so I wanted to get your opinion on the most overrated/underrated players by position. My choices would be:

Goalies:
Overrated-Miller
Underrated-Howard

Defensemen:
Overrated-Karlsson
Underrated-Beauchemin

Forwards:
Overrated-Giroux
Underrated-Eriksson

Thoughts on those?

This could go so many ways... Could a player be overrated by his contract or just by the media itself. Some citys have more media than others..

Overrated as in people think he is better than what he actually is, not overpaid. Players like Bryz and Phaneuf would be included if I were referring to overpaid players.

Overrated- Taylor Hall

Goalies:
Overrated-Miller- I think he's great, just inconsistent, may need a change of scenario
Underrated-Howard- I agree but I don't think he's the vezina type
Defensemen:
Overrated-Karlsson - strongly disagree, he's the best offensive dman at such a young age, he has the potential to be in the hall of fame
Underrated-Beauchemin- hes 32 yrs old & its his first breakout season
Forwards:
Overrated-Giroux - was way overrated last season, we are back to reality this season
Underrated-Eriksson - somewhat agree, how good do u think he is?

here is what I think

I disagree with the Karlsson and Miller points. Miller was thought to be a top-5 goalie because of the 2010 Olympics, but he just isn't. And Karlsson is overrated because people make him seem to be on the same skill level as Orr, which isn't right. He is in the top-3 D in the league right now, but people really overrate him on his current skill level.

I actually think the opposite, he's quite underrated. A lot of people think he is a liability defensively, which is just plain wrong. He has a similar skill level to Karlsson, but is more well-rounded. He is fantastic offensively and is decent defensively. Karlsson is godly offensively but average defensively. On a scale of 1-10, Letang would have 9 on offense and 7 on defense, while Karlsson would have a 10 on offense and 6 on defense.

I think Miller is considered a top 5 goalie because of his Vezina season.
in the past 4 season he averages around 2.50 GAA 920 Sv pct.
I don't see why people have a problem with him, its not his fault his team is not that good.

Karlsson- I really don't like was about comparing players from different eras because it starts a whole other discussion.
Drew Doughty got similair recognition early in his career & has faded since.

Overrated: Ryan Miller, not close either imo the most overrated player in the whole NHL.
Underrated: At this point? Roberto Luongo. Everyone thinks this guy is just a choke and he's still pretty easily elite


Defensemen:
Overrated: Brian Campbell
Underrated: Lots of guys, I'll throw out a name noone's mentioned though. Marc-Edouard Vlasic.


Forwards:
Overrated: Lots of guys again. I'm going to say Claude Giroux
Underrated: Lot's of guys again, again. I'd say Jaime Benn.

Just off of the top of my head. There's probably more overrated/underrated players in the league though. Players like Eriksson and Miller are so often stated as underrated or overrated that they can't really be overrated/underrated anymore.

I find it hard to say Giroux is overrated. I am a Flyers fan, but the guy is simply excellent. And outside of a rough patch when Hartnell was out and they were flipping his line mates left and right, he again has 21 points in his last 18 games (11 in 8 since Hartnell's return). He's certainly not Crosby, but he's in that first tier of offensive forwards right after Crosby who's in his own tier. Briere? I'll agree Briere is overrated at this point in his career, he shows up in the playoffs but doesn't do what he used to do on a regular basis.

Overrated-Karlsson (idk why he`s automatically my first thought, might be the Sens hate... Bouwmeester would be my alternate)
Underrated- Vlasic( Would give my left arm to get him on the Leafs)

Forwards:
Overrated- Marleau (good player, but not as good as everyone talks about imo)
Underrated-Prust (might surprise some but he`s been a good piece for MTL and i`m not saying that the NYR are losing because they don`t have him but i think he is a great piece to a team and underrated in my book)

James Reimer (everyone just assumes we Leafs fans are pumping him up for no reason... when he is healthy he is VERY good)
