DT Cullen Jenkins signs with NYG - thoughts?

Free agent defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins and the New York Giants have agreed to a three-year, $8 million contract, the NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones reported on Sunday. Jones reported that the deal includes $3 million guaranteed.

Good for Cullen. Awful against the run but one of the best pass rushing three techs I've seen when he showed motivation. As long as the Giants rotate him in on 2nd and 3rd and long situations it'll be a great fit, and I'm sure they will.

We have to DL depth to make this a good move. I assume that Reese is gonna draft a DL at some point in the draft, probably early. Jenkins wont have to be an every down guy and will be a nice mix with Linval in the middle. Not a bad price either. I like it

Jenkins is a solid pass rusher, just don't use him on a running down.

He should do well there, they always run with 8-9 DL so this should be an ideal situation for him. Do they have any run stuffing DT tho?

Linval Joseph and Rogers will be the run stuffing DT's. Joseph and Jenkins on pass downs. I like it. Cheap signing too.

Everytime I hear ANYTHING about the Giants and their line I cringe.

    ...
Five rounds went by in the 2000 draft... After 198 other players had been chosen, the Patriots drafted him in the sixth round.
Owner Robert Kraft recalls the night he was leaving the old Foxboro Stadium when he saw "this skinny beanpole" carrying a pizza. "He comes up and says, 'Mr. Kraft, I'm Tom Brady.' I said, 'I know who you are, you're our sixth-round draft choice from Michigan.' "And he looked me right in the eye and he said, 'and I'm the best decision this organization has ever made.' "

How is it a cheap signing? Its pretty much $3 million a year for a guy that is only gonna play about half the snaps.

He's going to start, play more than the 3rd DT (so more than 50%), and is a solid player with a few productive years ahead. DT's aren't usually cheap players to fill

Pretty good signing, good for them.

Sidenote, how did he sign when FA doesn't start until tomorrow?
