Matt Dan Deckker must make the club

I haven't seen many ST GAMES BUT THE FEW. That I have seen I ve seen this kid Dan Deckker make a sick play in CF.

I know he can't hit much but if we put him between cowgill and outfielder X I think we will be okay.

Defense gets overlooked a lot and Dan Deckker would be the captain in the OF. Good defense helps with pitchers ' psyches a lot. It's an experimental move but y the hell not.
For the 1s that do not know he's always had awesome defense I be seen him make this catch in the minors .... Ridiculous

This team doesn't have a awesome anything this year.

Can we have an awesome CF Defender out there.

And yes if Kirk is going to miss time or not be too productive the give dD and Cowgill the platoon job in center.

I think they'll go with Cowgill in CF with Byrd + Valdespin in RF

den Dekker isn't on the 40 man roster

So put him on. Isn't he like 25 already? He's outplaying Kirk and you can't trust CF full time to Cowgill just yet. Might as well add him to the roster and CF.

I think it would be better for him to start the season in the minors.

He couldn't hit the broadside of a barn last season in AAA and isn't on the 40 man.
Projections have him in a ~.285 wOBA area which is just brutal.
He also doesnt hit particularly well vs either RHP or LHP so using him in a R/L Platoon has minimal value.
Cutting someone from the team now to make room for him on the 40, when he might not even be an upgrade seems like a high cost.
If he actually starts to hit and someone goes down with injury or is horribad then you can call him up.

Yeah, but they could mix some Valdespin in there at CF vs. RHP as well

I want Valdespin on the team, but am not sold on him in center, rather have him in a corner spot. I rather have the good glove in center.

Keep Den Dekker in Triple A to start the year. If multiple of Valdespin, Bird, Cowgill, Duda, Baxter, etc are strugglign bad enough and Den Dekker is hitting well in AAA, soethingthat is definitely NOT a definite, then we can call him up. He doesn't have a spot right now though and he gave us no reason for us to give him a call last year so a little ST success isnt gonna automatically make hima legit candidate.

I hope Den Dekker can be a late bloomer though and become a good major leaguer. Maybe a 10+ homer, 20+ SB, .275 hitter with very good defense in CF< that would make him a pretty decent major league starter. Nothing suer but not bad either

That would make him a borderline all-star with his defense. He's not going to hit .275

I see a .240/.310/.420 kind of guy with plus CF defense, 15 HR/SB

Yeah, even that's pretty optimistic, but that's the hope at least. I don't think he's ready for that yet, though. For now he needs to be getting at bats in AAA. It's not yet worth cutting another marginal guy like Carson, Germen, Robles, or Lagares to add him. Let him show a little more with the bat first.

As for Roster moves, Omar Q. replaces Hicks. You are going to likely have to add at least Byrd, and two or three of Atchison, Lyon, Hawkins, and Feliciano. So you are probably cutting 3 or 4 of Havens, Lutz, Lagares, Carson, Burke, and Germen as it is.

I think we'll see Den Dekker second half though, after some other things have been sorted out and he's gotten some more AB in AAA.

If Kirk doesn't hit significantly better than Den Dekker we may as well see what we can get for him on the trade market

Yeah my line was me being optimistic, I don't think he's ready for that personally. I have little doubts that we will see him in the 2nd half though.

Lyon is already on the 40 man since he was given a ML contract btw.
