    What is Reggie doing???

Am I the only one who doesnt see a plan here? We've heard about the contracts that Reggie has needed to clean up in the post Al era, but what has he really accomplished?

    - Tyvon Branch was given a new contract last year by RM - its already being restructured with a huge back-end load that we will be stuck dealing with in a few years (sounds like Al, no?)

    - Last year's draft was pathetic - the only guy that had any impact was Burris. (Even Al pulled some jems out in the 4th round and beyond - Jacoby Ford, Dennarius Moore, etc). Our first pick in the draft (3rd round) barely saw the field.

    - Why are we still renting players. Signing 30+ year olds to one year deals is a waste. We are in the midst of rebuilding. Rent a player when you have young talent that needs to be cultivated

    - Wheeler was a young pup. Why didnt we offer him a 3 year deal last year at league min??? If he sucked, it would have cost next to nothing. I realize no one could have predicted how well he played, but again, a 3 year deal at vet min, would not have killed us. Instead, he is a FA this year and pondering if coming back is in his best interest.

    - Our best CB is Philip Adams? We have a huge issue here. If we dont get more talent at CB, its gonna be a long year.

Please dont start whining when you read this. Im not hating, Im stating the obvious. Al was a lot of things, but he was always trying to assemble what he perceived to be talent. For all the talk of getting the salardy cap in order, RM is starting to push money into future years (just like Al), only where is the fresh talent????

Here are some things I'd be considering:

    - Try to move Carson Palmer - he's the best QB on the team, but he could have value to a team like Arizona or the Jets. Palmer is already 33. We are more than two years away from being competitive. Give Pryor a shot. If he flops, we draft a QB next year. Possibly take a flier on Bray late this year.

    - Move Houston to DT where he belongs and let him put on 15lbs. He'll give us the energy we need inside.

    - Draft a DE or CB in the first round. Fill the other position in the third. Rent a free agent at each position to solidy the position in the short term.

    - Sign Ray Maleuga to a two year deal to hold down the middle till we find a better player.

    - Sign or draft a RT later in the draft. Barnes will suffice for one more year if necessary. He was average two years ago in the power blocking scheme.

    - Consider trading Branch and letting Mike Mitchell play the position. This one is a stretch. We give up coverage ability, but we gain toughness. Mike Mithell needs to play more get better. If he elevates his game a little more, he could be a real force and set the tone for a truly aggressive defense.

If you take a look at the organizational culture of where Reggie came from, the football people who influenced him, you will see that they built through the draft. It takes time.

Yup...and the sadist in me loves watching all the fans on here cringe every moment we do not sign some overpriced freak and start making roster moves...

It's like FA has already started and the draft happened...oh wait...

I refrain from posting nonsense like these threads, it's a waste of time. I'll keep saying what I've been saying for years until they actually do it.

FVCK DB's, WR's, RB's, QB's, LB's, and all the other damn positions on the team everyone thinks we need a proven/veteran/potential/talent/explosive player at.... FIX THE LINES

The game is won at the line period.

I think we should sit back and allow GM Mckenzie the chance to get thru free agency and the 2013 draft before we question what he is up to! i strongly feel we should give the guy a chance! He got put into a bad spot with little money or draft picks! He has weeded out some of the dead weight as far as players and big paychecks for retred players!

The offseason just started. Last season we were limited pics it's kind of hard to find a starter in the 6 round. Give it some time the guy is in his second year. You do realize this team was a joke for a decade a new gm can't clean a mess in 1 offseason.

And luckily you did the whining for us so we can just respond rationally

Because he was released from the Falcons, and not a free agent. Which allows him to sign with any team he wants anytime he wants. Contracts expire March 12th. Which is why Alex Smith has not signed yet, but an agreement is in place.

OP, you gotta be kidding me. You expect a GM to turn this team around in one year? And a year where the offense took a step back with Knapp time? A culture of 50+ years of doing things a certain way? I guess it's true, no matter what happens, some people just see the glass as half empty.

Green Bay was turned around very quickly. They had two winning seasons between 1980 and when Wolf-Holmgren took over in 1992, they were competing for the NFC Central (North) within a season.

Its much more difficult when a GM is backed into the salary cap situation like the Raiders combined with so many botched first round draft picks. Players like McClain, and DHB are be paid elite money for less than mediocre performance.

Honestly, if you look at what McKenzie is up against, this rebuilding effort is unprecedented. Dallas in 1988, SF in 1978 and Green Bay in 1992 were all before the salary cap era. SF is a fair comparison to some degree because of all the picks that organization gave up to get both Jim Plunkett and OJ Simpson. Walsh turned things around rather quickly with some some excellent drats. All that was before my time but watching a few NFL channel programs on the 49ers and reading about the Plunkett & Simpson trades reminded me some of what Oakland is faced with today. Without the salary cap problem.

Reggie has a tough job ahead of him. He must have really respected what the Raiders once were to take this on. He really needs to get the draft right. His ability to succeed in Oakland will probably be determined on how he drafts the next two seasons.

Agreed.. I have respect for him for taking the job. Who would want to be thrown in this disaster. Reggie is determined to get us back to the top

Players released by a team can sign with another team right away.
