Victor Cruz (Eli on Cruz - Post #263)

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...iters_rapsheet

SIGN HIM NOW. I'm on the Nicks-over-Cruz campaign, but the closer it gets to him possibly being snatched up, even if for a 1st rounder, I'm just not feeling good about it.

Nicks and Randle next year? Not enough.

Somebody remind me.....if the Giants tender him and another team makes an offer for him, Giants can match that right?

Giants wont match Cruz is likely gone man just face it. Hartline got 6 mill Bowe got 11 Cruz will ask for 9 minimum and to be honest in the market I dont know if that isnt fair value. Hes a pro bowler and an extremely popular player that sells jerseys. Only thing is if he leaves NY he wont get nearly as many endorsement deals so thats pretty much our only hope

Its not just money. What has always protected RFAs (like Wallace last year) is that a team not only pays the guy but they have to be willing to part with a 1st round pick.

I think the Giants are happy to pay a reasonable contract, but they don't want to get into 8 figures/year. If another team is willing to go $10+/yr for him, I don't think they'll also give up a 1st rounder for him in the process. If a team offers $8 mil....well I think the Giants match it.

There's one wildcard to this whole RFA thing this year. There's not a ton of WR prospects and a team that would have spent a 1st on a WR, late in the 1st round might be perfectly happy spending that and cash on a proven WR like Cruz.

Brian Hartline got 6 mil per, so I am assuming, Cruz has to want 5 years 40 mil, which is fair I think.

the giants have a great track record with letting players go when they've gotten their use out of them, as exemplified once again with Aaron Ross who was cut today, but I can't say I am not worried about losing Cruz. Although I wouldn't put it past Cruz's agent to have planted a story such as this to get the giants to move on a deal, its tactic, but one i can tell as the fan base a little worried.

What about this. The Rams may be looking at Cruz. They give us the 16th pick and we sign our old Steve Smith for cheap. Would you do it, the 16th pick and Smith for Cruz( big contract)

In my opinion cruz is not a number 1 receiver. He's more of a number 2 thats better in the slot. He struggled last year when Nicks wasn't there. Teams paid more attention to him and was shut down in some of the games. He's still a very good receiver, but do you want to pay your number 2 receiver 9m a year and then have to give a similar amount to your number 1 receiver?

Its going to be tough if we can sign him in a way where he's getting more as a signing bonus and its back loaded, then i'll be ok with it.

If you take away any teams #1 receiver due to injury and then have their # 3, 4, and 5 WRs be nothing short of garbage, it's not very hard to contain the #2 receiver.

Early word is that Cruz's agent is looking in the $8-11 mil/yr range.....like every other WR.

yeah they do. I'm less worried about losing Cruz than I am on how they replace him.

I love Steve Smith and want him back, but that's my heart talking. My brain knows he's done.

I don't know what you guys mean by 1 and 2 anymore. Ranking on the team? Maybe, but he and Nicks have different skillsets so we have 2 #1s really. Its a blessing. Cruz is amazing in the slot, but people keep using that to discredit him rather than what it really is: a specialized skill that is worth a lot of money.

And as far as him struggling without Nicks, that's just not true. Cruz proved he can do well with or without help from a big X receiver.

    Further to this point....

Last year Nicks missed weeks 3, 4, 5 and 17.

Here's Cruz's numbers for those games:
3 - 6 rec, 42 yds (while Barden abused their rookie CB and they ran the ball well)
    4 - 9 rec, 109 yds, 1 TD
5 - 5 rec, 50 yds, 3 TDs (on a day when the run game was used more often)
    17 - 4 rec, 52 yds, 1 TD

That's right on par with what he did this year with Nicks in the game.

gotta sign him up....and get that good-for-nothing Diehl to take a paycut or cut his ***....I'd rather have Cruz on the roster than Diehl....but if Cruz leaves, Tavon Austin better be drafted by the Giants, or else I'mma facking lose it!
