Botch says Luongo refused to waive NTC to TOR

    BEST FACT I

The Toronto Maple Leafs never offered Nazem Kadri for Roberto Luongo in any trade proposal.

    BEST FACT II

The Canucks never asked for Nazem Kadri at the June draft. They may have asked for Kadri and Tyler Bozak months later, but it was not a thing at the draft.

Later the Canucks were centring a deal around Bozak, who is on an expiring contract and was slotted for their third line. They were looking for more than Bozak and asked for Kadri to sweeten the pot. TO said no dice.

    BEST FACT III

Roberto Luongo refused to waive his no-trade clause at the draft to go to Toronto. Negotiations with the Leafs did not last long at the draft.

And because obvious is obvious, the Canucks could not have made a deal with Toronto then, and didn’t turn down a deal in June because they got greedy and were holding out for more.

No offense taken because I was thinking the same thing lol. I'll say it again, what is the point in trading Luongo if this is the return we will get.

If we had gotten Bozak as the main piece for Luongo, Gillis would have been found murdered the next day. So this is good that it didn't happen, even though I am pissed at Gillis for a lot of things over the past year.

It seems like Gillis has gone from super aggressive (Sundin, Demitra, ripping the Sedins) to being very complacent and seems content to run with this team, even though we have pieces that can and need to be moved.

Yes to all of that. Gillis needs to get off his *** and act like a GM.

What move(s) does Gillis need to do to prove to you that he is acting like a GM.

    1. trade one of the goalies
    2. build a second line
    3. build a third line
    4. build a fourth line
    5. build a power play
    6. consider moving on from AV

What's wrong with the 3rd and 4th lines? I agree with everything else you said though.

If we build a real 2nd line, I tend to think Higgins-Schroeder-Hansen would be a pretty perfect 3rd line. In other words I don't oppose getting rid of Booth and Raymond. I still cant really figure out where Kassian belongs at this point. He has shown glimpses of 1st or 2nd line caliber, but then he disappears a lot too.

I agree with you about us having the ingredients for a very good 3rd line. The problem is that we have three lines worth of third liners right now, and yes, I am including Kesler in that. Whatever great player Kesler was briefly in his career seems to have passed him. When he was back I saw flashes but little of the production we need from him. Leaving him aside we have nada that is 2nd line worthy, and sadly I think that includes our prospects. The team is Sedin-Sedin, two very good goalies, some very good D men, and a lot of over-coached mediocrity.

It would be great if we had a GM who could get off his ***, drop his stubborn theories, and build a team. Not a team of average AV droids but a team where you are on the first or second lines because you are BETTER than anyone else. Right now we do not have the talent level to shape the team properly. This goes all the way back to Nonis' brutal offences.

Kesler played 6 games with a broken foot this year, he played most of the year last year with shoulder/hip/wrist injuries that required surgery. He's fine, when healthy.

Kassian belongs in a top 6 role... AV doesn't even use him on the PP. I still think we should put him on at least the 2nd unit. The team talks about getting simple and putting shots on net, so Kassian would be perfect to screen the goalie and get rebounds.

IF that's true, when do you figure that's ever going to happen again?

I'll say it again: Kassian and a lot of the AHLers had a false sense of accomplishment in the first games of the season. They were in mid-season form because it was mid-season for them; the rest of the league was in preseason exhibition form. As soon as the league got its feet, the AHLers' bubbles burst. Kassian was one of those.

But I agree that AV needs to give more time to players who are developing.
