How many current NBA guards can anchor a defense?

Miami was a TOP 5 defensive team with Wade as the anchor in 2008-09. How many guards in today's game can do it besides Wade?
Aight, lemme end this with a KO right now:

    Ryne Sandberg: 9282 PA | 4.05 fWAR/600 | 4.2 rWAR/600 PA
    Chase Utley: 5128 PA | 6.32 fWAR/600 PA | 6.26 rWAR/600 PA

Utley has 1/2 as many PAs right now...thats definitely whats hurting his HOF hopes, but he has been clearly more valuable than Sandberg in his career. If he can get another 2000 PA (3 full seasons) of 4.5+ WAR rate, then he >>> Sandbage

iguadala is definitely the defensive anchor for the nuggs and he plays SG, a defensive anchor guard means that they don't have a big to really anchor the defense so it's pretty rare.

Iggy has done wonders for Denver. When is the last time Denver was in the middle of the pack in defense? With our style?

I don't think any guard really can "anchor" a defense. Wade wouldn't be one of the first 3-4 guards I picked if I did, BTW.

I don't even think more than a handful of big men can either. I thought Dwight was undoubtedly a guy you could put on any team and they'd excel defensively, but it's clear that that's not even true (somewhat of a handicap because he's clearly not 100%). His team's guards couldn't keep Uncle Drew in front of them if they tried, and his coach doesn't really do anything either. Even the league's best defender needs help. Chandler comes to mind. LeBron because of his versatility. Maybe Noah and Hibbert?

Larry Sanders could develop into that.

But the list of true anchors has got to be tiny.

Guards can't anchor a defense, they're too limited on who they can defend...

    anchor? not many.
Set the tone and spearhead, sure.

I wouldbt call a team with JO and Haslem in the post anchored by Dwade on the perimeter...

Basketball-Reference has the 08-09 Heat as 11th defensively, not top 5.

don't know about "achor", because protecting the paint is obviously how you win, but i think paul george is close. iggy is up there. i mean thabo has been absolutely huge for OKC....usually 2's and 3's that are crazy long...chandler parsons has potential...battier used to be up there.

Wade is more of a help/passing lane defender. He's great at coming over and playing the lanes. As a one on one defender I say he's more average. I have seems some good series from him, but he does get lazy on fighting off screens.
