P.Wheeler "I don't know if coming back is best scenario or not."

#Raiders negotiating w/ Philip Wheeler's agent as we tweet. "I'm anxious," Wheeler said over phone. "I'm not sure if it's going well or not"

Wheeler: "I don't know if coming back (to Oakland) is best scenario or not. I had good time here but I'm not sure who's on team next year."

Wheeler: "There's plenty of teams out there. It's very important to me to get back to being part of a winning organization."

More Wheeler: "I definitely think it can be turned around in Oakland. Reggie McKenzie is the right guy and Dennis
    Allen is the right coach."

Sounds to me like wheeler thinks he's a big shot now. Wheeler should be greatful we were the only team willing to give him a starting opportunity. If it wasn't for Aaron currys injury he wouldn't have started. IMO it sounds like he doesn't want to be a raider and if he does stay he wants to be paid big money. Wheeler was average he did show sparks of being good but sometimes would get lost in coverage. Wheeler should focus on getting a haircut and sign an extension or leave and stop wasting Reggie's time.

Just like Myers, Wheeler is a dime a dozen. Don't break the bank to keep them, don't fret when they leave.

I like his comments. He's just saying he wants to see what moves we make to ensure an effort at a winning season. If we aren't happy in our free agency signings, how can we expect him to be...?

You can also translate the comments to his priorities being our team getting better, not his signing a big contract. If he said he is looking for a team who appreciates his talent, or something to that respect, then it would seem like a pay day quote. For all we know, he will take less money as long as the rest of the money is used to improve the team...

I guess I saw things differently. I thought his cover skills and motor were one of the biggest additions to the defensive side of the ball. Again, I agree to some extent that it didn't take much to improve the coverage that we saw from the likes of Curry and McClain the previous season, but I thought he was a very nice addition to the roster.

I would love to see him back on the team. He is a talented LB in my opinion.

I wouldn't miss him a bit, he is a mediocre player on a bad defense.

Coach Allen said, "he runs around a lot, but he is still making mistakes" Oct 2012.

LOL That's all I needed to hear, that's what happens when you bring in back-ups, to start.

Wheeler is a good player but if some team wants to overpay for him...so be it

I can agree with you on this. As much as we all liked Wheeler flying around last year making tackles and such, the guy aint worth a lot of money

I thought he originally was a back up in Indy then came on as a starter after an injury to one of their starts. Then started the next season, no?

Also, you sure he wasn't talking about Burris, I know he said similar things about him.

I think his comments definitely let us all know what is going to happen.

Wheeler definitely will not be a Raider. I consider this a low-blow to the organization. You rarely hear of a player stating that he wants to play for a championship caliber team, as an inference that the team he is playing for is garbage.

We're the football version of the A's. We'll end up producing talent, only for them to leave with a contender the following year. Sad state of affairs in Oaktown.

There is a silver lining here. In years past, Al would keep paying these guys. Football is business, players are replaceable, not to sound detached, but they are, well,... chattle.

There are other Wheeler's out there.
