Nuggets to chase Korver in Summer

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.c...r-this-summer/

The Denver Nuggets score more points in the paint than any team in the NBA, which is a good thing for them. But it is born in part out of necessity — they are the NBA’s worst shooting team from 16 feet out to the three-point line (32.4 percent) and the league’s third-worst shooting three point shooting team (33.8 percent).

How much more dangerous would Denver be if on the fast break they had someone running to the arc you had to fear?

Someone like, say, free agent to be Kyle Korver. Who is shooting 46.2 percent from three this season. Which is exactly why the Nuggets have put on the top of their off-season wish list, reports the Denver Post.

Korver, an unrestricted free agent in his 10th year in the NBA, is expected to be one of the Nuggets top targets in the offseason as the team actively courts players who can fill that shooting void. Denver won’t be the only team looking to gain his services, but if the money is right (Korver makes $5 million this season) the situation might be hard for the sharpshooter, who grew up in Pella, Iowa, to turn down.

Shots figure to be much easier to come by in a system where guard Ty Lawson’s driving is so respected that he sucks defenders into the lane, and other players capable of hitting from long range – Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Corey Brewer – make it so that he would be difficult to devote additional resources to slowing just Korver down in the manner that the Nuggets are expected to try tonight.

The Nuggets have guys you should fear from three — Gallinari and Lawson both shoot better than 35 percent — but they lack a classic sharpshooter like Korver. The Nuggets may or may not land him, but their free agent shopping list should have a lot of pure shooters on it.

I like JJ Red. game more. He is a free agent too. He will probably cost more though.

then what happens to J-ham?? If we don't resign Brewer (Brewer wants to stay...Karl loves him...Uriji might like him as well), don't trade Ill Will (it would be a mistake to trade him imo), don't trade Gallo (also a mistake to trade him), keep Iggy (would probably need to do that)..then sign Korver...where does that leave J-ham?

He'd be in his 3rd year...and would get no significant playing time...for the 3rd straight year.

It's a "what happens" to a lot of people scenario, but in today's league, Korvers are a premium. Probably a better defender than Redick, but a bit older, and also more efficient and cheaper than Mike Miller.

Do you think there's a situation where they get Korver AND Hamilton and use them effectively? Eventually, depending on what we do with Fournier, who I think has a decent if not inconsistent stroke, we can fill in that missing piece offensively.

Keep in mind, Korver is going to get a pretty penny. A good assumption that it is going to be more than 5 mil. If we want to keep the core together we have to make sure it's reasonable.

We don't need to break the bank for Korver. Yes, it's nice to have a TRUE bonifide SG but J-ham has more potential to have the most value overall. He's not a bad option to go to for SG..

And if you harp on his defense...is Korver's any better??

If this core is still intact...not likely.

The only way I can see that happening is if one or more of Iggy, Brewer, Chandler, Gallo are gone.

I think most good teams have a 9 man rotation. And the rest are backups who get in with injuries and blowouts.

At this point the Nuggets have a solid rotation in

    Ty
    Iggy
    Gallo
    Faried
    Koufos
    Miller
    Brewer
    Chandler
    McGee

There's also a lot of pieces that are interesting in Hamilton, Fournier, Randolph and Mozgov.

The way I look at the roster right now, it is primed for a trade.

With no draft picks owed to anyone. We have assets galore.

So yeah in case we make a trade or do not renew Brewer. I can see us going for Korver. Who would be a great asset.

But if we retain Brewer and Iggy and do not trade Chandler, I just don't see it happening.

With all these players assumed coming back there wouldn't even be time for Korver in our current rotation. I would think the only way Korver is here is if one of Brewer/Chandler/Iggy is not here next year.

But you can't pass on making a run at the best 3 point shooter in the league because Hamilton is on the bench.

Probably the best way to give him time would be to lower both andres minutes. Or just rid of miller and get a pg to play 15 quality minutes. Wish stone to devlop into that role. That shouls give him 15-20 minutes if we also lower brewers min. The question is just brewer or korver. Hustle for 3's?????? Both can thrive here. Its a tough one. I would rather play korver than jham honestly. Korver is proven...

Totally agree and was thinking the same thing but afraid it's wishful thinking. No more Miller/Ty in at the same time with Ty being marginalized but an actual pg and sg at the end of games...oh to dream!

Like I have said all along, no way we should trade Chandler, he is way too valuable. He's proven that the past few games. I think Brewer and/or Miller will be gone this off-season, that should open a spot and some cap room to pickup Korver. We could slide Mcgee into the starting line-up and have KK come off the bench. Keep Stone around to let him play as Ty's backup for 15-20 minutes and we should be good. If they bring in Korver, that spells the end of JHAM though.

its sad mcgee is a 10 million dollar 15-20 min guy...for the amount of money he's getting paid he should start... sadly dwight won't want to come here otherwise our team would be set...getting korver is nice and we'll prob trade hamilton for a backup pg

Ha, despite all the Nugget PSD hate of Old Man Andre, I will forever view him as the most accurate passer in the game, maybe ever. I don't think anyone threw a better 3/4 court oop, or half-court set oop. Would really wonder what happens to Javale when his personal oop assistant is gone.

Korver is definitely a "nice to have" and not a "must have" but I do think 3pt shooters are becoming incredibly valuable in this league. Ideally, the answer is for George to realize this and cater to the shooters we have on the team a bit more.

Miller won't be gone and I think Brewer will be resigned. If he doesn't resign then I say go for Korver. Jham is just going to have to wait his turn or he will get traded. Hopefully we can get some value for Moz/Jham(if we do get korver). Maybe a young backup pg, backup pf, or back up sf/sg.
