    Mike Brisiel takes pay cut

The Raiders have worked out a restructured contract with RG Mike Brisiel, dropping his 2013 salary from $4.35 million to $1.35 million.
It sounds like a true pay cut as opposed to a salary cap move. Brisiel was signed specifically to play guard in former Raiders OC Greg Knapp's zone-blocking system. The zone scheme has since been scrapped, and Brisiel may return as a backup only in 2013. He would've been released without the restructuring.

Would of preferred him to be cut but I guess this works. Does his pay cut reduce his salary cap number by alot?

a lot of ppl just want him cut but the fact of the matter is that the guy played injured most of last yr and they want to try to keep some stability. Good move by Reggie to get him to take the paycut.

Not bad. We'll have to see how he does in the PBS, but at least he'll be decent depth.

Injuried or not injured he had some penalties that hurt the team and he's not a fit for the power scheme.

you don't know that. just because he played under a ZBS in Houston and 1yr here doesn't mean that's all he can do. For what he's coming back for salary-wise I'd definitely give him another chance. There are too many holes to fill already anyways..

Great point. His salary is in line with his expectations...we need this to happen a few more times (Palmer, Kelly...etc.) and the team will be ready to move forward.

That depends if it was a true cut, and not a restructure where the money is added to bonuses and hit us anyways. Seymour only had a base of 1 million last year, or something ridiculous like that...and his bonus hit us for 15. I'm not 100% on those numbers, but it could be the same kind of scenario. Seems like Cork is a pretty good source though, so we will see.

Besides the pay cut, Brisiel could be looking at losing his starting job as well. Lucas Nix could be way to go given switch to power scheme
I don't think they're just gonna give him the RG psoiton, which is good....because even if he does get beaten out by Parsons or whoever he's a vet to hyelp them along PLUS thats great depth (can play either guard psotion if needed). Keeping this guy at this cap # this year is a great move. He will have to be the starter and play de3cent to stay here though...about 3 and a half mill per year after this if he does.

I like the move. It saves $3 million towards the cap.

Also this will help to provide competition between Briesel and Nix. Let the best player win the battle and have some decent depth for injuries.

From what I have read, it appears this is a cut in salary and not a restructure. If that's the case, this is a great move, IMHO.

From the article it seems like a true cut. Let's hope so.
