The team was so ridiculously stacked back then. Datsyuk was a role player lol.

Man I miss those days. My buddy and I always have the debate: Which was the better Red Wings squad: The 97-98 Team or 2002 team?

That might be my favorite Wings memory of all time lol, the other that comes to mind is when Roy triumphantly lifted his empty glove as if he had the puck and we scored on him for it. Cocky bastard

The following link is to that Wings' roster. Look how many "old" guys the Wings had.

    http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/DET/2002.html

It is strange how when teams are winning the older players are experienced veterans, but if a team is losing those same players are old men that need to retire.

Anyone remember Steve Dushene taking that puck to the mouth? It knocked several teeth out. He went off the ice, got his shield cleaned, maybe got stitches, and came back out to finish the game. I'm not sure which game it was though. Pretty sure it was a playoff game.
Edit - Answered my on question. It was game 3 of the SC playoffs when the Wings and Canes went to triple OT. At the one minute mark of the video Datsyuk makes a great move that is pretty common by him now and the game winner by Larinov (41 year old center) at the end is pretty sweet too, plus Dushense gets the assist.

The Wings are going with the same lineup again tonight. White and Huskins are healthy scratches.

I wonder what White did to get all the healthy scratches. I don't think he's been that bad all year. I guess because guys are getting healthy he needs to sit but he's still better than a couple of them.

    Trade bait maybe?

Either trade bait, or perhaps, he's in Babcock's doghouse for complaining about being a healthy scratch. I think Babcock has a lot of fans perplexed right now. Looking on other sites, tons of fans are wondering why Babcock is not trying Tatar on the line with Cleary and Datsyuk and dropping Abby down. Check out the article below. It seems some of these same comments have been voiced in this forum.

Well let's see, those old guys were mostly future hall of famers that still had more than plenty to offer. If you really want to compare the two, I don't even know what to say to that lol

Whew! How quickly the intensity picked up from "trying to get Jimmy the SO" to "trying not to blow it".

No kidding. The goal the Avs got was a direct result of the Wings not clearing the zone. Great goal by Franzen and Kronwall got a lucky bounce that ended up being the game winner. Finally, a little luck and the 2 points. Howard certainly earned this game for the Wings.

Good to get a win. The play in the last few minutes left a lot to be desired though.

Missed the game unfortunately, sounds like Howard played really well from your comments.
