Drafting a DE with the #18 pick

So, do you want to draft a pass rusher? This article does a very nice job of breaking down some measurables regarding successful pass rushers (DE) in the last few years and then shows who is there for this year.

Don't "Rush" to judge just yet

There is some very intersting stuff in here and since the draft time is upon us, I thought it would be a good thread to start

What say all of you? I still want OL with the first pick, but if you fancy a DE/pass rusher, then read on...

Interesting article. He should give these numbers to the Jones haha. I would love for the cowboys to have a great pass rush. If you look at our defense (all players being healthy) we have a good looking secondary with one hole possibly at free saftey, looks like two stud linebackers when healthy, one great DE and a DT that has potential to be even better than before in this new scheme if healthy. Remember he was a pro bowler before. If Spencer doesn't come back which is looking likely he won't I would like to see the cowboys get another stud dline player. I'd love Dion Jordan but he will be gone so I'm hoping somehow ansah falls to us. Then we could use Hatcher as DT next to ratt. If he is not there I look at either sharrif Floyd or Star Lo....you know who I can't spell it. Then you could move Hatcher or Crawford to DE. I think any of these makes our dline solid. But if none are available I say go oline. I just like dline first over oline cuz I'm hearing this draft is deep on oline and you can get solid starters in rounds 2-3. Sorry this was so long haha

I actually think Star Lotululei is the one of the best players in the draft...if his health concerns check out to be ok, he could go in the top 5 or so...I love his motor...Hatcher is interesting becausse I think he could play either DT or DE depending on who else we get for the line

Once we re-sign anthony spencer we wont have to worry about going DE at #18.

I think we are deff going O-Line or Kenny Vaccarro if hes there.

If we have enough money for one big signing it should be for the O.line.
Even after this signing we still have to draft O.line in the first round.
    Second round go D.line
    Third round R.B

I hope you are right about Spencer coming back but I just dont know. Idk where the money will come from. Is it worth it to pay one guy that much when you could replace him in the draft and also use his money to sign a couple free agents for other positions of need and to better the depth of the team? Not to mention we pushed so much money back into future years with all the restructured contracts and we will still have players like Lee, Carter, Des, and Murray to try to resign. And also yes I think star would go top 5 in terms of talent but with the health concerns who knows maybe he falls. And if he does you have to seriously consider grabbing him

This is the same train of thought that I go down. No one knows for sure if Spencer is going to be as effective as a DE. It is too much of a gamble. I would say try to sign a player who has performed as a DE already, if you are going to commit.

I honestly think Hatcher can give you just as much as Spencer can on that side.

Use our limited resources wisely, OL and lock up Lee now.

i really dont care who we draft. I just want a good player. i trust our scouts, so whoever we draft i will love.

i can make an arguement for us to draft anyone.

i really would like to see what crawford can do. but, like corners, you can never have to many great pass rushers. a great pass rush alone can win you a superbowl. however, oline, is a bigger need.

i think if we have a de and an RT rated equally, go RT. if de, and G rated equally, go DE. if one is rated even slightly better, go with who we have rated better.

Thats probally what i would do.

but, im changiing my mind daily, lol.

Primetime, cHi8DaL5LA420 I miss you guys.
    Not the same without you.

Once Spencer is back on the team like I mentioned earlier I could see the boys going in 3 different options

    1) Guard say Jonathan Cooper
    2) If Kenny Vacarro is there you have to take a hard look at him, Safety is our weakness
    3) DJ Fluker, with him and Tyron Smith at our Tackles for years to come it could be a good thing.

^ Looks like we are on same page, no way would I trade up for Warmack though, we need all picks we can get.

And I really like cooper so if we can stay at 18 and get him, id be super happy.

I can't imagine a DE in the first round now...it's not that having quality back-ups isn't important, but hte spencer tag means we likely focus on OL, S and other needs in the draft (RB, OLB)
