    Thoughts on QB situation

I dont usually post, alotta great minds here, I love the passion for the team, the irrelevance in the NFL world kills me right now, anyways, i just wanna get some feedback and my thoughts to make sure I'm understanding everything...

Is geno smith a smokescreen? do we draft him and trade him , hold his value high now and leading up to the draft and trade?

could someone please explain to me why?

why not restructure palmer deal and give him 1 more shot. I think we can all agree he didnt have the most experienced WRs, no run game, and an average o-line.

no restructure? , maybe cut him

and if palmer fails on a 1 year mike vick like deal, WHAT ABOUT PRYOR?

hey he was fighting his tail off the last game of the year, I was proud how he played, and looks like he got better from the pre-season,

with RG3, newton, kapernick , mobile QBs and the new offenses the trend,

we got the guy to do it, hes bigger then RG3, more durable, needs to work on accuracy, has speed, can elude pressure a la cunningham,

    why not Pryor?

Last thoughts - I know a lot of us bash the late Al Davis, which is weird because the raiders as a global brand is unique because of him, but his last big move was taking pryor in the supplement draft,

He left the Raiders with 1 last swing at a home run. How ironic would it be if Pryor turns out to be a beast and the pick makes up for Jamarcus Russell? Only owner in pro sports that changed the end of his legacy after passing away...

we cant let Al go out like that, i think we all have to agree to give him last move 1 shot at success, we have the rest of life and future to do it the standard NFL way, geez the Al links are slowly coming off the wagon...

It seems to me McKenzie at times goes out of his way to completely rid the previous picks and players from hue-al , so in turn he can say he built the team on his own merit etc...

he can do that and claim its making the right choice fine, but I THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE - give Pryor a shot. He's 2 years in the league now, hes a better fit then taking a swing on another potential QB bust in Geno Smith.

Palmer or Pryor better QB options, save the $, the team can fill other holes.

Typically a team will not come out this early with there intrests. So Geno is a smoke screen hopefully an attempt for another team to panic and tarde up for the 3rd overal giving us more pics in the draft.

If carson doesnt restructure cut him.

Pryor still has a lot of work to do to be thinking that far a head. Hes still a project IMO. I would like him to start this season though. If im not mistaken its the last year on his contract and we spent a third on him. Lets hope he develops quick enough this off season to start and see if he is something we build off in the future.

    welcome to the forum

oh yeah. And the Raiders have to much invested at the QB position so it would make 0 sense to pay Geno that salary. If a qb does come out of this draft expect it 5th rd or later. We need defensive help ASAP. And with DA being a defensive minded HC thats clearly what they will attack via draft and FA

You don't usually post is an understatement beings it says this is your first post. For someone who doesn't post a lot you are verbose. This could have gone in another thread but I will try to give my opinion on some of your queries.

No way do we draft and trade him. The smokescreen if you will, is just us showing interest, or as someone said in another thread it could be Jax who istigated the smoke screen. it would not make sense to draft and trade him. What if no one bit?
Right now the Raiders are working with Palmer to get him to take a pay cut and make his salary cap hit more friendly. He is getting the shot. The rumor is that he MIGHT be cut if the they don't work out a deal. I believe they will and Palmer is more than capable to lead this team for a couple more years. Our o-line statistically wasn't that bad, but improvements can be made there with the right personnel.
Pryor is the heir to the throne, when he can take the starting position from Palmer or if Palmer is cut, he will be the starting QB. Forget about this RGIII, Kippersnack, Newton comparison stuff. Those guys were surprisingly good right out of the draft except Kippersnacks who was a second year guy. They are mobile, strong armed QB's. Pryor can also be a pocket passer that happens to be mobile, strong armed. He will get his chance and I will be there to support him.
Al Davis was a genious. His reputation stood for itself. He just didn't let go when he should have, but that is okay. It's over and he will be remembered and honored. If Pryor his last pick, turns out to be the stroke of genius then that is great, if not, no one will care.
RM is the beginning of turning this franchise around. I am excited and I think the rest of Raider Nation is excited.

    How's that?

No tape on a player helps that first year, look at Newtons sophomore year!! With all of the big names taking cuts, Palmer will do the same. I just hope, that with Pryor working out already (with a QB "tutor", selected by, but not a member of the coaching staff), and Palmer still on the couch, that Pryor TAKES his job ala Russell Wilson!!

Geno "smoke screen" Smith is just RM doing his job, got all of us talking (typing)! we will pull some FA/UDFA's or a late round (comp pick?) QB for camp meat. DA has said we won't go into camp with 2 QBs.

    Welcome to the forum!!

@ Wolfe, where are you from? those Toms look nice!! much better than what we have in Oregon. like to bow hunt em' myself.

    A few things:

    - The Geno interest might be a smokescreen coming from another team (i.e. the Chiefs or Jaguars), they'd have the most to gain from a team that covets him. Personally, I hope that's the case. I don't like Geno, I don't want Geno on the Raiders.

    - Mobile QBs aren't a revolution or even an evolution, athletes have been playing under center since football became a thing. I doubt using the QB consistently in the running game will be a consistent part of an NFL offense. Too much money tied up in the position from a front office stand point. Too important to keep them on the field from a coaching stand point. Too important to the players to stay on the field, for their health and financial reasons. Take more hits = shorter career.

    - Pryor has yet to be cut.

    - A lot of money tied up in Carson Palmer, too much of a cap hit for arguably the worst roster in the NFL. He'll need to restructure, but they have ways of restructuring so players can be less of a cap liability and still make money (bonuses, guaranteed money, ect.). I hope they work out Palmer's contract and he stays, he didn't have much to work with last year.

ive said this all along....so dont listen to all the carson palmer /pryor haters that are gonna give you mindless thoughts on our very good QB situation....they cant argue with a 4000 plus yard show with no run game and injured players in a crap scheme, and the way pryor did alll the right things in his game which showed us the future after a palmer trade/retire/injury...it amazes me on all the hate these two generate ,when they are doing theyre jobs...
Rebuild baby!Just Rebuild! ..............those who stand for nothing fall for anything!

Starting is Palmer and Pryor being brought in on packages. If the Pryor packages seem to be more successful then he takes over as the starter. I would be shocked if Palmer Doesnt accept the "Vick Pay-Cut" No way we draft Geno but it sure got alot people wondering which way we can go with this. But in the End we fix our o-line and d-line , sign a few veteran corners and we'll be on the right track!

Geno Smith is a young pocket passer. Pryor needs developing the even be one. Palmer is not of any use to this team now (Superbowl this year?) nor for the future. Just my thoughts.

Give Al's last draft pick a fair shot. I agree with this.

U right. We need to go all defense and just roll the dice. The only thing is,if our team is not competetive Dennis allen might get fired even though him and Reggie have said hes in it for the long term reggie can change his mind and then we have to start all over.

we have a couple QBs who can fill a starting roll. We have no players to even put on the field at many many other rolls. Seriously what is our roster size right now? People are worried about a 3rd string QB? We have a new QB thread every day its getting annoying.

We need a new corps of QB's, amongst a lot of other things.
