Not sure how many of you know Landon Powell. He was the A's first round draft pick in 2004 out of South Carolina. He worked his way through the A's system and had a few MLB runs with them before getting cut and picked up by HOU last year and now NYM this year.
Powell married a friend of ours (my wife used to babysit his daughter and we're friends with her parents). His father-in-law was a captain of the USC football team who went on to play for the Baltimore Colts and has his name on the "wall of fame" at Williams-Bryce Stadium. Nice family pedigree.
At any rate, Landon (and Ally) lost one of his months-old twin daughters to an extremely rare disorder in late January, literally days after he signed his minor league deal with the Mets. Even if you're not a Powell fan, a Mets fan, or a baseball fan this story is powerful.
