    Margus Hunt

Lots of talk about him lately. He'll likely be at 26 and there's a shot at our 2nd.

I for one would rather not see us taking a shot on a 26 year old player who plays so high. Feel like he hasn't taken coaching well.

He's a FREAK but that freakiness has only shown up about 1/10th of the time on the field.

    Wonder about others.

Figured we'd make a thread to talk about a new prospect every couple days.

    My Take:

Just to elaborate. He's not someone off my board. So I did vote for 2nd. But the board will really have to be ugly. I can't imagine a scenario where I would there wouldn't be someone else I wanted more.

If you could hit with him on our 3rd. Now then I'm jumping up and down. But we all know that is not reality.

I'm having trouble getting past the age thing, I can't imagine he would be at the top of my board at the end of the 2nd round. I'm not sure where to vote.

Sounds to me like he's more of an athletic specimen than a football player. Thats not really good enough at 26, and I certainly wouldn't approve of a 1st round pick on a maybe. I understand the draft is always a bit of a risk, but I don't want to see a wasted 1st rounder. We experienced enough of that with Hawk.

It's the age that makes me say no until round 3. First and second round picks are supposed to be the future of a team. And all he is is potential at this point. He's proven nothing yet.

    Hawk wasn't a waste. He just wasn't a star.

This kid could flop out of the league in 2-3 years. Hawk will be playing still in 5 years.

You could do a lot worse even though he certainly wasn't worthy of his slotting.

It scares me you redshirt him for a year now he's 27. What happened to that Watkins kid from Baylor. NFL READY AT 26. Lol, kid's a freaking bum.

Now you have a kid who's 26 and NOT ready.

I understand what youre saying but the fact of the matter is that the only reason Hawk is still around is because TT drafted him and his ego doesn't want to let him go.

And Weeden. Weeden looked like a 21 year old and he might MIGHT have four years left once he's playing at an NFL level.

25 years old is too old for me.

I'm not convinced of that. I know we don't like Hawk but I'm glad we had him last year when every other backer was dropping like Flies. We could have been in far bigger trouble without him.

Hawk is a useful, albeit unspectacular player.

Like has been said a million times. If he was like a 3rd rounder selection, he gets far less grief. He's over-scrutinized because of his slotting.

And to be honest, I don't remember ANY upset Packers fans when he was taken. Sometimes guys just don't work out, we should be glad he didn't bust out of the league.

That being said, his contract is disgusting and Ted has no excuse for it.

That's bull **** knee high to an Indian. Do you think it's simple to just go out and sign a guy that will play better than Hawk, who knows the teammates and knows the system? And cheaply? Is there a secret free agency I'm not aware of? He drafted Jennings. Jennings is getting let go. He drafted Harrell. Harrell was let go. He signed Woodson. He let Woodson go. This stigma that Thompson has an ego is so ridiculous that only a select few individuals still believe it. They come out of the woodwork every year the Packers don't win the Super Bowl and they're all the loudest people in the room saying they've always trusted and liked Thompson when the Packers have success. It's asinine to the point of being capable of causing insanity in people that don't presume to know the attitude of people they've never met. You've never met Thompson. You've never seen him talk on a personal level. You do not know his ego because you've never witnessed it.

Thompson hasn't gotten rid of Hawk because he hasn't found a replacement better than him. He's tried by drafting several inside linebackers, but there were some more pressing needs than inside linebacker. Look around the NFL and you will see that position has been considerably devalued, especially in 3-4 defenses in favor of pass rushers and linemen. Additionally, due to the increase in 3-4 teams, talent at the inside linebacker position has been increasingly harder to come by. Hawk is not the worst starting 3-4 linebacker in the league, so how do you expect an improvement if there are no free agents better than him?

You're either talking out of your *** because you don't like Hawk or because you're too used to being able to trade for a star inside linebacker for a third round pick in Madden.

How often do these older guys work in the NFL?

He cut Barnett and resigned Hawk. Barnett was far from perfect, but I liked him a lot better than Hawk. What he lacked in physicality he made up for with at least a little bit of speed that Hawk so sorely lacks. Like I said, he was far from perfect, but he was at least quick enough to get close to the ball. I understand the whole injury concern thing with him, but to say that TT has never had a suitable replacement for Hawk is simply just not true.

Lets just say that if we're going to take shot I'd rather it be be someone like Te'o or Ogletree. I wouldn't even consider him in the 1st.
