Canucks waive Volpatti -- call up Pinizotto..who was sent to Wolves for conditioning

Aaron Volpatti on waivers for 2 reasons. 1. Get him icetime. 2. Open roster spot for Steve Pinizzotto, coming off injured non-roster status.

The Canucks just lost some grit and toughness, I like Volpatti. I don't know if Gillis knows what he's doing. He basically "fired" Malhotra for health reasons, then Kesler comes back and within a couple of games his foot is broken, so he'll be gone for the rest of the season I'm asusming (two centres down). Volpatti gets put on waivers (and I'm unsure why) and is now a Capital. Now the Canucks are so desperate for a centre, I hear Malhotra is back practicing with the team. I doubt he plays, but what is going on?

I was fairly happy with the lineup before, even with Kesler out, you knew he would make an impact when he returned. But that only lasted a couple of games and now he seems to have Samisaloitis (one injury after another). It seems to me that Gillis is going to have to do something a bit more drastic and make a significant trade (unless he thinks everything is still fine). I can see him thinking "we're in an easy division, will probably win it, which means we'll make the playoffs. We'll stand pat and play out the season and the see what happens in the playoffs." But if he doesn't make any improvements, it's going to be a quick playoffs for the Canucks.

Canucks needed grit so they get rid of their 'grittiest' player. This organization is baffling right now... why is Pinizotto so much better than Volpatti?

I don't get it. Volpatti (BC boy) is younger than Pinizzotto and has some experience playing in the NHL. I loved how gritty Volpatti was for us, and he wasn't afraid to drop the gloves with anyone. Pinizzotto hasn't even played a regular season game yet in his career. I'm not sure what impact Gillis is thinking he has. Seems he has issues with injury as well. It is baffling.
