Lakers "Rushed" Because of Buss not Kobe

    http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/ey...team-impatient

One interesting topic: the move to fire Mike Brown five games into the season, a decision that seemed very knee-jerk and impatient. Kupchak actually agrees with that perception.

"The one thing that was a big factor is our lack of patience," Kupchak said. "When we made the changes we made in the offseason, we really did it with a two- or maybe even a three-year window, probably a two-year window to do our best and win a championship. And clearly we knew Dr. Buss was not in great health, and we were hoping for the next year or two we could put something on the court that would result in being in the hunt at the end of the year for a championship.

"And when we didn't feel we could get there after a preseason and a small number of games, we didn't feel we had the patience to wait and see if it was going to work out," he continued. "And that's really why we made the change we made so early."

So that's Kupchak saying essentially, the team became far more impatient because of the failing health of Buss, which contributed to Brown's firing.

While that probably is the truth....It looks bad to say it so shortly after the man just passed. It looks like that's an excuse rather than the reality.

If it was because of Dr. Buss, then they should have hired Phil Jackson after they fired Brown.... He has the absolute BEST chance at winning now with this roster having already coached Kobe, Pau and Metta... Sounds like a bad excuse for this teams performance to me....

Sounds like an excuse to why they picked the wrong Guy.

One thing everyone here seems to forget, is that Jerry Buss desperately wanted to bring back showtime. Jerry alluded to it all the time, he mentioned it after phil left in 2004 and it was again mentioned this time around. I'm sure this played into the hiring of d'antoni as well.

The reason I have a hard time believing this is because Jerry knew exactly how showtime worked.
They got off and running by playing defense. Block shots, steals, rebounds ect. Plus when you have guys like Magic, Worthy and Cap, your going to be pretty good in the half court set as well.
D'Antoni preaches no D and his offense consists of getting the shot off in 7 secs or less including a ton of low percentage jump shots.
The Suns offense no where near = showtime.

Yeah, but i'm sure d'anotni didn't pitch what he was going to do as what he did in phoenix. I'm sure the way he described it was probably more compelling than what he actually did.

I certainly believe that Buss was the main reason for the impatience (and there clearly has been), but Kobe and Nash's age had to have played a role too. The window to win might not have been too big at that time, and the reasoning is the age of two of their four best players.

IM starting to get the feeling we can make a very deep run into the playoffs this year. We've already shown we can play with SA and OKC even with out huge amount of injuries, plus the team is starting to play very good ball. Yes they've layed a couple of eggs here and there but they are really starting to gel and it will only get better from now on plus Gasol will be back for the playoffs too.
