    Eagles Release Cullen Jenkins

    http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/201...ullen-jenkins/

    Thoughts?

Cap Hit for 2013 would have been 5.5 million.

I really like the move from both a cap perspective as well as allowing more snaps for our younger players. (who may not be on the roster yet)

Good riddance. He wasn't getting the job done and is only getting older.

Team needs another DE now. I was shocked they cut him this year and not next.
    Stoops....there it is!

If we are using a hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense wouldn't he be a good, versatile piece to have?

this means we're leaning towards a dt or de in the draft because on our rostor idk who could play the de position in a 3-4

Maybe I'm off, but this basically means to me that he wasn't willing to take (another) pay cut to stay in Philly. I can't see any reason to release him other than that. He's a good, versatile guy to have. He play 4-3 DT, and 3-4 DE.

Eagles are in a weird spot.

It seems like they're trying to get younger, but on the other hand we have players like Vick, Nnamdi, DRC (if he re-signs) that don't exactly scream "rebuild" to me. I know you need to have some veterans around like Cole, but I think at this point they should just let Nnamdi & DRC go too.

They probably are letting DRC and Nnamdi go.

He was good in year one but he definitely didn't get the job done this year, and even though he was suppose to be a leader type guy, I think he was one of those locker room problems we all heard about, or at least this is one of those "change the atmosphere on the team" moves

my thoughts exactly, provides us with even more cap room (although I'm not sure who we plan on targeting in FA with all this money besides CB Sean Smith) and gives us the opportunity to not only get younger & more explosive up front but also this move seems to be one of those change the mood in the locker room type of moves. I think they want to draft a DE/DT that fits the new philosophy and is more coach-able into a new system. This also might mean that we take a deeper look at a DE/DT hybrid like Bjoern Werner, Ezekiel Ansah, or a Shariff Floyd

I still don't get why some people won't admit that this is rebuilding?

He would, and even if we were running either of those schemes exclusively he'd be a good piece to have. Cap casualty unfortunately.

Kind of a double edged sword. They extra money helps us go out and pay for FAs and sign draft picks, but ultimately creates a new hole on the team and may make it less appealing for FAs to sign here since it makes it even more apparent that we are in a major phase of transition and rebuild

Because some people are so impatient that they can't handle the concept
