The "If I were the Raiders' GM" Thread

    Moderator's Note:
Alright, so I've gotten complaints from a couple of people that I've merged their "If I were GM, I would...." type of threads into the Off-season Thread, so I thought I'd make a thread where we can discuss ONLY what we would do if we were Reggie McKenzie.

So post your scenarios in this thread, and if you want to critique someone's plan, please quote their post so it won't be confusing to know who's plan you're commenting on. And of course, respect others' opinions. Just because they don't share the same ideas as you doesn't they're wrong.

    ================================================== =============

Gentlemen, I'll give it to you straight about the team, and you give it to me straight.

This thread isnt for stupid, DMC, Pryor or Palmer put downs. We assume they keep both, or get rid of one qb, and I've been told as an insider about DMC that Reggie said, unless Dmc gets seriously injured, or doesnt produce next year he will never be traded until its absolutely time. He thinks DMC is worth building the team around because of his age...so they are keeping him...

We need to cut Gio, Carlisle, Seymour (get him back for cheap back up), Briesel, all corner backs except hanson...continue the cuts with Smiith, Barnes, McClain, Lechler, Leinart, and Jones, and trade Myers for a pick. We've got better waiting..

We need to put Wiz back at LG, if not we need to see what we have in Berg and Parsons and make them a guard, left or right tackle or cut them or make them back ups (I say cut them both lose), and find 2 in the draft.

We need a center, (not if Wiz stays put though), we need a right tackle, we should keep all of our wide recievers, sadly if we get a vet #1, then Hagan's out, but Ford, Streater, Criner, Moore, and maybe DHB stay put, but DHB needs a pay cut...

I'm fine with Palmer starting, as long as he wins out this next season, if he doesnt then all the nay sayers can talk crap! If we start Pryor, I'm fine with that also, as I believe you can start him, and not look back. He's a champion, and you never forget that, and as for my fave DMC, he needs another Michael Bush, to come out and wear down the defenses that plan for Dmc, then use use Dmc, to outrun them with his speed, and it will keep him healthy late in the playoffs, if we ever get there. Once Dmc gets comfortable, with the scheme, and starts tearing off 50 yarders, like he did against the Broncos, that'll shut the nay sayers up, and make the defense home on him, and just when your trying to stop Dmc, Palmer will show you why hes starting again, and drop the bombs like he did in 2011, and that will take focus off Dmc, so he can take it to the house again, with another 50 yarder.

Palmer will give Pryor, the poise, and tutoring he needs. Palmer will show everyone why he was a #1, and bring the team together, and make them ready so Pryor's transition to starter after Palmer retires, gets injured, or traded is smooth. Hell, he might stay on as back up. If not id like to see J.C. (or someone on his level),back him up; someone who will come for cheap, and is starter material. If we started Pryor, they'd stay honest, because you wouldn't know if Pryor will gun it, or run it, and then hes got Dmc, either way sounds scary to me...

As for the D, I believe with TK and Bryant, or a rookie monster next to them alternating, TK could be our Seymour for a year or two more, unless he does another stunt like this year and doesnt show up. I love Shaughnessy, Bryant, Houston, and Gaither, Carter. Wheeler and Burris are my faves. With a better secondary, and new MLB, this unit has the potential to be great, with a couple of righteous picks.

I also can't wait to see what everyone thinks about my boy King the punter. He's great! Everyone thought he was just a camp body, but I showed everyone stats on him they didnt care. You're listening now! BYE, Lech! I hope I didnt forget anything. This is what ive been saying for years, and now tell me your straight forward thoughts on this years team JUST LIKE I DID INCLUDE CUTS KEEPERS AND THOUGHTS ON MOVING FORWARD AND WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ALL POSITIONS ALSO WHO WILL BE DRAFTED THIS YOUR CHANCE TO SAY HOW IT SHOULD BE what would you do with the team if you were RM.... PS some of these guys i said to cut are already free agents, or thier contracts up, so i wouldnt re- sign any.

    Stay positive please!

    THANX IN ADVANCE

2013 oakland raiders offensive roster moves

Most anyone who has read my posts knows where I fealt we stood before 2012,this thread is just to reinforce some thoughts that didnt seem to get addressed and IF they do,I feel we have a playoff capable Offense.

O-line: I wont beat this horse anymore regarding previous mistakes.Heres what needs to happen going forward. Veldheer needs to be signed long term before his FA season.
Wis,needs to be moved back to LG. the center ,RG and RT spots need some re evalualting.
Bergstrom,Nix,and parsons have shown some promise, but I would feel better if we did whatever it took to bring in a player at each of those spots with either an early round pick,or a FA signing that has experience beyond spot injury replacement.Priority would be RT,C,RG.
I want the RT addressed with more urgency because I think taking a true center is a draft issue not a FA signing. The Bama center that has been highly touted has fallen to the second round not becasue he lacks talent but the depth of this draft at othet levels.Kaleed Holmes the sc center would be available in the 3rd or even fourth round.RT MUST BE ADDRESSES in FA and RG can be satisfied by either nix, bergstrom,or parsons.

TE-myers isnt worth the money he will demand. we can do better.i say sign The TE out of UCLA late in the draft. They are mocking him low and for my money he is the best TE in the draft.there is no bigger downfield threat in the draft @ TE, he has spent four years playing in four different offensive schemes with four different starting QBs and produced over and over again.
The knock on him is his blocking skills and I am of the opinion that when you sign tackles that can play then having stud blocking TEs isnt all that important, we have a specialist already on the team in Gordon and we have Ausberry a year wiser.I wouldnt waste cap space on Meyers.
he has no down field ability,no speed, and no red zone skills.(Btw, Im kinda irritated how my assesment of him has been coopted through-out the net..Ive been writing that same critique for two years now and Im seeing that description all over the web now)

    Wr. we need a #1.
I m not going to champion one guy or another as it really doesnt matter to me.
we have a great grtoup of young talent, but no leader.with Ford returning, and DHB taking a huge restructure to stay with the team(that hasnt happened yet but it will, all you cut DHB guys can have a blast screaming about it, its not going to happen. He brings things to the table you want, and will be receptive to a restructure after getting way more then he deserved the last 4 years. Hes a hard worker and wants to improve, they will make an offer, and he will take it.
so we will have the same group with the addition of Ford coming back. This group has talent and is a true WR1 away from being one of the best in the league.
    thats it nation.
we do those things and with a return to the PBS as well as more downfield play action...we are a playoff offense...The defense remains in question.

If I were the GM, I would have fired both Allen and Tarver as soon as the clock marked 0.00 in the last game against San Diego.

I would also cut my loses and cut everyone one the defense except Huston & Huff...Branch...depends on what side of the bed I woke up on.

Really? Why is that? (Allen and Tarver)

Also, who would you hire as replacements?

I would fire Allen because he sucked as a coach; our defense sucked and that was his specialty. I also saw absolutely no progress on either side of the ball...literally nothing positive!

    Tarver ...well, read above.

As of this year, I would of tried out any of the college coaches that were hot at the time, but would've pursued Lovie Smith big time.

Then I would let him hire his staff.

agree with you i do...i think we shouldnt waste a single draft pick on TE position though, Myers is great now, and deserves his pay day, but for how long ? resign and trade him is what id do. ausberry is faster ,and more of a threat, like a big WR, but Gordan pass blocks, run blocks, and catches. we should be fine without Myers, ..biggest issue bottom line is the oline, and corner back than mlb imho

K, I'll play along. If I were GM I would have Kept Hue and let him finish what he started with Palmer, and actually have an off season since his rookie year was a lock out year. Would have most likely gotten production out of DMAC (for a few games), and most likely would have won more than 4 games. I would have spent some money and pursued a dc with experience like Del Rio for example. But hey, that's just me.

    Let the criticism begin! :P
