    James Jones

Last night Jones was on NFL Network and talked about what the receiving corps would be like without Driver and Jennings (via PFT):

It’s exciting because it means more opportunities. As long as we can stay healthy, it means more opportunities for me, Randall and Jody. When you lose playmakers like Donald and if Greg doesn’t sign back, that’s two less guys we gotta give the ball to which means you’re going to get a lot more action,” Jones said, via NFL.com. “I can see me, Jordy and Randall getting about 80 catches a piece. I can see us all having over 1,000 yards.
I've always liked Jones and I was happy that he was able to put it all together last season and have a big year.

But his contract is up after next year. And like he mentioned, without Jennings in the fold he'll have the opportunity to put up big numbers again next season.

So aren't we going to be in the exact same position next year with Jones that we are now with Jennings? Having to decide whether or not to pay a receiver even though there are other holes to fill and other contracts to extend.

I would assume that Jones will look to be paid like a number 1 receiver next off season. So my question is does it make more sense to just pay Jennings this year and let Jones walk next year? Or would you rather pay Jones the big money?

Or do we have to face the possibility that we might lose both guys and spend a high draft pick on a receiver even though there may be other positions that need to be addressed (RB, DL, LB, etc)?

Let me know what you guys think.

I really don't want to lose any out of Nelson, Jones and Cobb. If it was the same amount of money, I would actually keep Jones over Jennings.

I agree, I love Jennings but Jones really came on last year with more playing time and made some sick catches all year long!! I loved the one against Tillman in the endzone on his back hip!!!

Interesting take with Jones. He was once in that situation. I was real happy for him last season. I hope he continues to get better.

We'll see how he bounces back after that huge year last year.

lol i don't. Rodgers had to plead to TT to keep Jones. The only players on this team that i could see being a packer for life is Matthews and Rodgers with Bulaga and Sitton being a possibility. In Today's game i don't see many lifers no matter what team they play for.

If Jones puts up 80+ catches and 1,100+ yards next year he will get signed or tagged. Hes always wanted that number one spot so lets see what he can do. I've always thought Jordy was a better 2nd option guy anyway.

i meant of the receivers, james jones is never going to be that guy who demands a big contract hes gonna be one of those guys we can keep around for 4-5 mil a year fairly easily, unless he super over achieves this year again. which recently, packer receivers havent had back to back big seasons

Gotcha. But who knows. who's to say he doesn't have a big year next year and will demand a nice contract that we might not be willing to pay? Receivers are one of those positions that can be easily replaced specially when you have a QB like Rodgers.

Really. I still fully believe Jordy is the better receiver. He can run every route while Jones is more of an intermediate receiver. IMO your number 1 better be able to take the top off the defense and I don't see that consistently from Jones. I'll take Jordy any day over Jones.

IDK what either of them are really, I don't think any of us really do. Two years ago Jones couldn't get love around here, now everyone loves him. On week Jordy can catch a ball another week it's like he's got vaseline on his gloves.

Jones was the same way a few years back so who knows really. I'd like to see us add someone though in the draft just for competition sake.

All of Green Bay's receivers are going to put up big numbers as long as #12 is QB. When Favre was here, Corey Bradford, Javon Walker, Bill Schroeder etc... all looked like quality WR, but when they left, not so much. TT can't give anyone big time money just based on stats, they fit well in the Packers system, but can they do it anywhere with any team like a Donald Driver or a Sterling Sharpe?
