Last night Jones was on NFL Network and talked about what the receiving corps would be like without Driver and Jennings (via PFT):
I've always liked Jones and I was happy that he was able to put it all together last season and have a big year. It’s exciting because it means more opportunities. As long as we can stay healthy, it means more opportunities for me, Randall and Jody. When you lose playmakers like Donald and if Greg doesn’t sign back, that’s two less guys we gotta give the ball to which means you’re going to get a lot more action,” Jones said, via NFL.com. “I can see me, Jordy and Randall getting about 80 catches a piece. I can see us all having over 1,000 yards.
But his contract is up after next year. And like he mentioned, without Jennings in the fold he'll have the opportunity to put up big numbers again next season.
So aren't we going to be in the exact same position next year with Jones that we are now with Jennings? Having to decide whether or not to pay a receiver even though there are other holes to fill and other contracts to extend.
I would assume that Jones will look to be paid like a number 1 receiver next off season. So my question is does it make more sense to just pay Jennings this year and let Jones walk next year? Or would you rather pay Jones the big money?
Or do we have to face the possibility that we might lose both guys and spend a high draft pick on a receiver even though there may be other positions that need to be addressed (RB, DL, LB, etc)?
Let me know what you guys think.
