Viktor Fasth signs a two-year contract extension with the Ducks

One more nugget re the goalie with the golden name: Fasth ... $2.4 mil the first year, $3.4 the second
The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they have signed goaltender Viktor Fasth to a two-year contract extension #TSN #NHL #NHLDucks
He currently has an 8-0-0 record, a .933 sv% and a 1.78 GAA. Question is did the ducks overreach based off a small sample size or is he going to be a legit starting goalie in the future? I haven't seen him play so I cant comment. Thoughts?

It's a small sample size, but it's not a bad deal.

Looks like they might deal Hiller.

It's a good deal. Nothing that really screams to me "bad deal"

Guy has been unreal but i wouldn't trade Hiller just yet... I think i read that Fasth has had knee issues in the past so i say keep both for at least this season and re-evaulate this offseason. Hopefully they have a few more re-signings before the season is out and they keep that core together.

Even if he doesn't do spectacular it's a good value contract. 3m seems to be the going rate for an average (give or take a little) starter and at 2 years there's virtually no risk

why sign a goaltender to starting rate, who has played less then a month in the NHL, just to save 1.6m cap less then Hiller?
Hiller has been a proven elite goaltender

How much he's played is pretty much irrelevant. There's nothing bad about this deal so I don't see the need to poke and prod to try and find a negative

Are teams giving up on a single starting goaltender? seems like more teams are interest in carrying two.

This goalie trend has been building for a while. They are going the way of NFL running backs. Teams prefer a good tandem to a workhorse guy as a way to better ride the starter in the playoffs.
