Feels "good" to be a Cubs fan right now

    • Consensus top 10 farm system
    • Several high ceiling hitting prospects (which are inherently more valuable than pitching prospects)
    • Competent front office on the cutting edge of scouting & statistical analysis.
    • More budget/financial flexibility
    • Better infrastructure abroad to attract top international prospects
    • Ownership that's seemingly invested in creating a winner

And for the first time in a lot of years, I'm going into the year excited to see young players grow into major leaguers, as opposed to keeping my fingers crossed a bunch of overpaid veterans can keep their limbs on long enough to make it threw the season.

It's a good feeling to be a Cubs fan right now. The future is bright.

    • 101 loss season
    • Almost no chance to contend this season

I'll feel "good" when competing at the Major League level is added to your bullet points.

I appreciate the objective optimism. I think people forget how poor of a position our organization was when Thoyer took over. I'm with you.

I don't mind "losing" when so much resources are being invested in the future. Even the 100 loss season netted us a big time prospect to add to our farm system come June 2013.

Major investments have been made abroad in latin countries, major investments have been made to beef up the scouting staff, major investments have been made in the front office.

Within the next 2-3 seasons we should be graduating major league stars from the minors WHILE competing for pennants. Just like the Red Sox were 5-10 years ago.

The organization is in a really healthy place right now.

Nice post pal. I agree 100%!! The average fan doesn't' know that this is what it takes to BUILD a winning franchise. We are not buying a winning team for a season or two. This is the way to do it. I for one and very excited about how they're doing it!

As silly as this sounds, I've never been so excited about a draft! It's crazy!

The plan is a solid one. And they do have balls to stick to it in a huge media market and with a fanbase like the Cubs have. But when does the honeymoon end as far as getting away with having bad to really bad big league teams? Next spring?

It will feel good if/when we start winning. The farm system and the behind scenes stuff is all well and good, but I care more about the major league roster so I don't feel the same as others do. 2013 doesn't look like a great year if they start selling off guys. 2014 doesn't look much better either. The pitching staff should be ok for a few years, but I'm really concerned about the offense. Castro and Rizzo I feel good about, but all the other positions are question marks. They really need to pick up the pace if they plan on winning a WS in the next 4 years. If the goal is to make the playoffs 8/10 years it looks like they will have to make the playoffs 8 straight years to make that happen.

What the **** did you just ****ing say about me, you little *****? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills.

Seriously, though I agree with many of your points thr quote usage is a bit confusing. Are you insulating it is not good?

The future of the Cubs feels good. The "today" product doesn't.

I'm totally on board with where the team is headed, but we're still 365 days, at the very least, before baseball on the north side is truly exciting again.
    Stoops....there it is!
    Fix it. Fix it good.
