2013 NFL Draft Preview - Defensive Backs

Here is the third in a series of position review for the upcoming draft. Each week, I will submit another position leading up to the draft. I will review the perceived top players at the position in alphabetic order. This assumes that the team has no changes to the current roster either via cut or FA acquisition (although, it's fun to talk about that!)

so, this week, we go with another need of the Cowboys, Defensive Backs, specifically Safety (but the better CB's are listed as well). I took out the probability as I don't see any of them taking in the first round (but you never know).

Anything underlined is a link to the player.

    Banks, Johnthan CB, Mississippi St
Tale of the Tape: 6'1", 185, Sr
Review: Lanky, good skills; ball hawk type
Likely landing spot: Late 1st, to 2nd round

    Elam, Matt SS, Florida
Tale of the Tape: 5'10", 202, Jr
Review: Athletic and physical; one of the top Strong Safeties in the class
Likely landing spot: Late 1st to 2nd

    Jefferson, Tony FS, Oklahoma
Tale of the Tape: 5'11", 212, Jr
Review: Not as tall as some of the other good free safeties in the draft; physical and can play either safety position
Likely landing spot: 3rd round; possible spot for dallas if they go OL/DL with first two picks

    Milliner, Dee CB, Alabama
Tale of the Tape: 6'1", 198, Jr
Review: Possible top CB drafted; should go before the Cowboys pick, although it is not likely they pick a CB early; good size, ball hawk type, strong tackler
    Likely landing spot: Top 10

    Rambo, Bacarri FS, Georgia
Tale of the Tape: 6'0", 210, rSr
    Review: Aggressive, good size
Likely landing spot: 3rdround, another possible Safety around when the Cowboys pick in the 3rd

    Reid, Eric FS, LSU
Tale of the Tape: 6'2", 212, Jr
Review: Is this guy the real deal or a product of having very good CB's around him? Has the size and athleticism to be a starter in his first year; aggressive
Likely landing spot: 2nd round, could be there when the cowboys pick in the 2nd

    Rhodes, Xavier CB, Florida St
Tale of the Tape: 6'1", 217, rJr
Review: Physical, strong with long arms; likely the 2nd best CB in the draft
    Likely landing spot: Top 20

    Thomas, Phillip FS, Fresno St
Tale of the Tape: 6'1", 215, rSr
Review: Athletic, good size, play-making ability
Likely landing spot: 2nd round (I could see him being there in the 2nd for Dallas)

    Vaccaro, Kenny FS, Texas
Tale of the Tape: 6'1", 218, Sr
Review: The top safety in the draft; he has the entire package; strong tackler who likes to hit and play on the ball; if he is still around at #18, the Cowboys could pick him despite their other needs
    Likely landing spot: Top 10 - 15

    Others to watch:

CB: Logan, Ryan, Poyer, Jordan, Trufant, Desmond
FS: McDonald, TJ, Motta, Zeke, Swearinger, DJ
SS: Lester, Robert, Williams, Duke, Williams, Shawn

What say all of you? Safety is a need, but in the first? What are your opinions?

I agree with you on vacarro. His energy and phyiscality are what we lack. Not to mention he has great coverage and played slot corner alot at Texas.

Vacarro is a stud, and appears to be the cream of the crop at safety...I can't see them picking him at #18 if there because of the needs on the OL and DL, but I wouldn't cry over it if they did

Please no DB in the 1st or 2nd. We need OL and DL in the worst way. But in the 3rd I wouldn't mind Thomas or Rambo if 1 of them is available. If not get another OL or DL. And maybe TJ McDonald will be there in the 4th.
