Colts moving on from Freeney and Collie

Indy Star's @bkravitz is reporting the #Colts will say goodbye to Dwight Freeney and Austin Collie.

Not surprising, but it's going to be strange seeing a Colts game without #93 wreaking havoc.

Not surprised at all....Freeney wasn't coming back after being un-willing to work on his cap hit before last season. He then went out and had a terrible season for the lofty price of 19 million dollars against the cap....had he been more willing to work with the new management he may have still be here as a situational pass rusher and a couple other FA's could've been signed helping the team this past year. Imo, his refusal to do as mentioned I believe sealed his fate in Indy, regardless of how well he played or not....

Collie needs to retire as most who suffer from concussions like his usually have them more frequently and it takes less to cause one. His long term health is much more important.

Sad though to see both leaving but imo they are the correct moves...
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

I wish 93 luck wherever he lands. He is still the greatest speed rusher I ever saw.

Freeney is probably the best colts player ive seen through the entire process of his career(started following seriously in 99), its surreal that hes gone. will always be one of my all time favorite players, Bob Sanders has been the only defensive player ive seen have a bigger impact for us at his peak. Freeneys strip sack will live on in my memory forever.

Collie was meh i dont even think he should be in the same thread as dwight, concussion collie needs to look out for his own personal well being and retire already.

Either way both these moves are better for the future, freeney needs a 4-3 defense and collie needs to go home before he ruins his life.

    Freeney over Peyton?

i never watched peyton get drafted, or his first season really , i mean i remember the day we drafted dwight and saw his entire development, of course peyton was better and more impactful.

If thats the case then I have got to take Reggie Wayne. I was a little too young to remember Peyton being drafted and Reggie is a future HOF.

Wayne would be a good choice as well but he really didnt fully hit his stride until 2006 and his impact wasnt as large early in his career because of marv , i just think freeney has been an elite defensive player since the year he came in the league and really truly changed games for us, albeit he has been one dimensional for the most part but i dont know that ive witnessed a better pure speed rusher the Freeney, just my opinion

I remember Freeney being bashed by Kiper and company for being a 2nd round talent at best and thought we should have drafted Haynesworth or even Triplett who we ended up getting in the 2nd round....All I heard was something like 4.48 speed from a D Lineman and I was sold on him....never thought he would be a potential HOFer though.

Freeney said he was very surprised by the decision to not get re-signed....kinda caught me off guard. He's been the subject to release/trade since before last off-season.

It was surprising that the colts dind't at least submit a low-ball offer.

All that would have done would be cause bad blood, and if he accepted he would have been regulated to passing downs since he really didn't fit her also probably also causing some bad blood. This was a clean break for both parties and IMO what was best for the team and Dwight. It also keeps the door open for Freeney to come back and retire as a colt (like Saturday) as well as if he ever wants to get into coaching somewhere it keeps the door open for that here as well....I mention coaching because he is a very intelligent and well spoken player which usually isn't the case.
