Percy Harvin on the trade block

Report from CBS Minnesota is that Percy Harvin will be on the trade block. Our scouting department loved him back in 2009. We tried to trade back into round 1 to get him and had we not made the move for Sanchez, the plan was to draft Harvin and beg Favre to come back.

I personally would like to go after him because we need a playmaker like that on offense. We don't have anyone with that kind of speed and open field ability.

Minnesota needs corner and WR help, so 2 potential trades I'd be cool with:

Cromartie for Harvin and a conditional pick in 2014.

    or

    Holmes + 2013 3rd rounder, 2014 conditional for Harvin.

*We save $8.25 million by trading Cromartie.

*Because Holmes has offset language in his contract, we save $8.75 million ($7.5 million offset salary + $1.25 million cap savings).

I figured if we did the Holmes deal, we would have to give them picks which is probably what they would want more due to the $7.5 million salary bill that Holmes comes with for them.

We also would have to re-sign Harvin, but I don't see it costing you as much as Holmes or Cromartie, so overall you would save money on the transaction plus gain a dynamic playmaker we desperately need on offense.

The Vikings are not taking Holmes in a deal for Harvin. Maybe Cro or Revis could be used, but forget Holmes.

It's well known that Harvin wants out. Marshall got traded for 2 thirds to the bears and originally for 2 2nds to the dolphins. Marshall holds a higher value than Harvin as well given that he is a prototypical #1.

So the trade should find its basis off of that. Given that Harvin also has an injury history and migraines, I feel like the Vikings would be lucky to get 2 thirds.

So if you offer them a third, and then a conditional third in 2014 that can easily become a 2nd that is probably more than what others would give up. But the condition you make is that they take Holmes for the upgraded draft picks.

Also if you are the Vikings, you are probably going to target free agents like Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings, and Mike Wallace because of Ponder. If you don't get any of them and you trade Harvin, there WR situation is suddenly worse than ours.

And you probably can cross Jennings off the list immediately. He is destined for Miami. And I feel that Bowe or Wallace will end up in Carolina because they know Cam needs more help. There's going to be a lot of competition for those 3 guys on the market and I don't think any of them are gonna want to play with Ponder over their other options.

It would make sense for them to take Holmes as an insurance policy. Off of a trade, his contract becomes cut-able at anytime after this season. So $7.5 million to grab a 2nd round pick over a third or some sort of similar upgrade and the insurance of having someone for Ponder to throw to makes sense.

Toward the end of the 2012 season, one NFL personnel man estimated that Percy Harvin will probably fetch a second- or third-round pick on the trade market.
Harvin is theoretically every bit worth a first-rounder -- perhaps even a top-ten pick -- but the facts that he's entering a contract year, and comes with character and injury red flags will inevitably impact his trade value. We suspect GM Rick Spielman would happily accept a second- and fourth-round pick as compensation, but the bidding could grow fierce for such a dynamic talent. NFL trades can be executed beginning March 12, the first day of free agency.

Depending on position a 2nd would equal 2 thirds. So I'm correct in my valuation at least initially.

So basically you give them an extra pick to take Holmes off your hand. They were going to have to give him an new contract anyway if they kept him so $7.5 million for Holmes wouldn't be so bad because it'd be for 1 or 2 years tops.

I like Harvey, but if we were to add Cromartie or even Revis they would have to sweeten the deal

    I figure Harvin's value is a 2nd or 2 thirds.

    Cro is worth a 2nd + conditional.

So my proposed Cromartie trade would be Harvin and a 2014 conditional for Cromartie.

If we moved Revis there, they would have to give us their first and Harvin, if not more.

The injuries though, he's super high risk. Has he even played 1 full season?

Aye to this. I'd like to move Cro, but who knows how Revis is going to respond after that injury.

This is the very scenario I've been hoping for - our 2nd rounder for Harvin. He's not a prototypical #1 and I'm not sure anyone would/could give up more than our high 2nd. I've entertained this thought of getting Percy for many weeks and believed he would become available. I think such a high 2nd could get the deal done. Forget the CB trades, just give them our 2nd. Harvin would be such a perfect fit for this new offense - he's another DeSean Jackson but a bit more sturdy and able to take more screens. Don't be at all surprised to see the Jets go after him. I can't see anyone taking Holmes coming off that injury, coming off that locker room dissension, and holding that high contract number. Not an option IMO. CB's? Yeah but the Vikes are pretty cheap and wouldn't likely entertain Revis. I'm not for trading Cromartie. Keeping him gives us more cap freedom to strengthen the team. I want Revis gone....preferrably for Alex Smith and a pick. This would be the shot in the arm everyone's been screaming for.

Thanks for the breaking story and ideas with justifications.

I would trade our 2nd this year for Harvin in a second. Holmes and Harvin with a Qb that can get them the ball would be nice for our new OC to work with, then bring hill along slow

Yep that's my concern too. Love Harvin on the field...he would be great for Sanchez. Just don't like his durability. I really hope we draft another WR this year at some point.

If the team is set on trading Revis would this not be the perfect opportunity? We need recievers, playmakers and draft picks. So how about Revis for Harvin, 2013 1st/2nd round pick, and 2013 & 2014 3rd rounders?

Honestly don't like the idea, trade away assets for an injury prone harvin? And on top of that where does Hill fit into this? I'm not sure but bringing in Harvin to be #2 really stunts hills growth. Further more we have a more durable version of Harvin in kerley..

Don't think you're being fair to Harvin here. I don't think you meant to say they are of equal talent, but still, Harvin is closer to Homes than Kerley in talent level...

That being said, I agree with you 100%, let's give Hill a chance to develop and hope he stays on the field. If you bring in Harvin, Hll becomes the fourth receiver, as I don't see them lining Hill up in the slot, not yet anyway...
