Post Marc Stein: Bucks interested in Redick

    Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
Weekend Dime addendum: Milwaukee now in mix for Magic's JJ Redick. Bucks, I'm told, assessing their ability to retain sharpshooter long term

    Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine
To meet asking price for Redick -- expiring(s) and a future first-round pick -- Bucks naturally wanna know they can retain free agent-to-be
    -Twitter.

I hate to part with a future first though.

Huge risk on our part since he's a unrestricted free agent and can go any where he wants and we have no leverage. So parting with a future first is very risky unless he agrees to extension immediately follow the trade. Then does this mean Ellis is gone? Or the other lame rumor of Jennings dealt then move Ellis to pg? Yuck. Unless Redick can play some sf as well?

New to posting here, but have been a fan of this site for years. Excited to finally get involved here. Now as far as a move for reddick goes, I don't think its a move that makes all that much better. Another shooter on the perimeter does give Jennings more opportunities to create, but I feel like JJ is only having this type of year (15ppg, 5apg, 3rpg) because it is his contract year. I don't think he's worth a first round pick.

Welcome to the forums RJ! Yeah a contract year and Bucks getting involved. We would just out bid our selves. Kinda like we always do. Over paid TT, Simmons,Gadz,Redd,EJ,Gooden.

Plus I don't like parting with a first rounder. That pick if we decided to part with this 2013 pick. That pick could be Glenn Robinson3. Rather go a cheaper route where a guy is still on a lower pay scale like Dudley,Henderson,Lee.

I agree. The upside with could have from someone like GRIII or even Trey Burke is better than having to pay for a career 9ppg SG in Reddick. Our best shot is to use Monta to get us better depth and a good offensive post player

If you can shoot the ball at an elite level and not kill your team on defense, you're always going to be a hot commodity in the NBA. And that's exactly what Orlando Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick is. The sharpshooter with the perfect shooting motion, endless motor going around screens and solid understanding of defending within the team concept is the target of many front offices, including the Milwaukee Bucks, apparently.

If the Magic are only looking for an expiring and a first-round pick in exchange for Redick, the Bucks look like great trade partners. They have two expiring contracts in the neighborhood of Redick's $6.1 million expiring contract. Either Beno Udrih or Samuel Dalembert (he of the 35-point explosion fame) would work under the Collective Bargaining Agreement trade rules, and the Bucks have all of their first-round draft picks over the next few years.

If the Bucks are willing to give up a first-round pick and not have heavy protection on it, that could be more than enough to snag Redick away from Orlando and leave the rest of the NBA scrambling to find another available shooter. But the Bucks wanting to retain Redick in free agency shouldn't deter them from not making a deal like this happen.

The Bucks are sitting in the eighth seed with a four-game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. They are not in real danger of falling out of the playoffs, but they have a realistic chance of moving up to the fifth seed if they acquire another shooter for someone like Dalembert, who really isn't a big part of their success. Even though they have played Miami well over the last couple of seasons, avoiding the Heat in the first round and trying to upset someone like New York, Indiana or Chicago should be the goal.

Curious if Beno would be part of the trade for Redick? Then Ellis gets all back up pg minutes? Since you figure we have Dunleavy as the back up sg and sf. If its Dalembert in the deal then things get weird for minutes. Also seems like Redick is a fan favorite after Howard left. Unless there's a follow up trade. Get on the horn trader John!

It would definitely be Dalembert his contract is almost identical to Redick's and I can't imagine we would trade a guard for a guard. That just doesn't make much sense

Rather retain the 1st, unless they want Da Goodz.

Sparky talks the loss to the Pistons. Then mentions CV always has career games against previous teams but stink all the other games. Then reads off emails and twitter and takes calls on the crazy deep shot by Jennings which he thought was fouled. Then talks about the Marc Stein rumor of Redick.

Sparky doesn't want to part with a first or extend him long term for big money in a career year contract year. Sparky rather just re-sign Dunleavy going forward. Sparky mentioned we would of been better off with Calderon. Then Woelfel mentioned about we were close to trading for Calderon the mentioned Bargnani.

Missed some of it cause I was walking away getting some coffee. Sounded like we would of shipped Jennings and fillers to Toronto. But Sparky said he wouldn't mind chasing after Calderon this summer as a free agent than signing Redick long term.

Then Sparky and Woelfel say were kinda of in a free fall now with Sanders injured.

The Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers are interested in trading for J.J. Redick, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.

Redick has increased his offensive production in each of the last five seasons and is averaging a career-high 15.3 points and 4.5 assists on 45.2 percent shooting from the field including 39.9 percent from three-point territory. Redick has recently been sidelined as he's missed the last three games due to a sore right shoulder.

Redick is currently in the final year of a contract that pays him $6 million this season. As an unrestricted free agent this summer, Redick is expected to generate significant interest around the league and any team that trades for him before the trade deadline risks losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

The Orlando Magic have lost 12 games in a row to fall to 14-36 this season which ties them with Washington for the second-worst record in the league, ahead of only the Charlotte Bobcats.
