    Off-Season Roster Cuts

The Giants got the ball rolling on veteran cuts over the last few days and it seems they’ll have some company from the other team that calls MetLife Stadium home in the near future.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the team will part ways with linebacker Bart Scott, linebacker Calvin Pace and offensive tackle Jason Smith in the coming days or weeks. Per Mehta, the moves would clear $27.7 million in cap space for the Jets. That’s crucial space for the Jets, who stand more than $20 million over the 2013 cap with those three players on the team.

None of the moves are surprising in the least. Scott’s play has been slipping for years and he might have been let go before the 2012 season if the team hadn’t guaranteed his salary in earlier cap rearrangement. Pace was scheduled to have a cap hit in excess of $11 million, way too much for a player who doesn’t regularly get to the quarterback, and Smith’s a backup with a $12 million cap charge in 2013.

Absent money concerns, the Jets might make all three of these moves. With money concerns, it is the very least they could do to start getting their house in order under new General Manager John Idzik.

But this didn't happen. If you read it you can just see its his opinion. I mean it seems bafflingly obvious they will make those moves along with a couple of easy ones, but its just an opinion piece.

Guys the GM just started, and he's got plenty of time to release players. There is no need to release anyone yet except to appease fans.
