According to profootballtalk, the Eagles have hired Billy Davis as defensive coordinator. Thoughts?

Im skeptical. So far it looks like our two coordinators are both coaches from a horrid organization (the Cleveland Browns). Hopefully they perform better here when given more talent to work with, but I think on paper at least its not very promising

already posting in the coaching thread....R36W please merge when possible ty bro.

Bill Davis has been in the nfl for sometime coaching strictly 3-4 he will need at least 2 years before we judge him...hopefully he gets that time

c-ri - you cant really judge that... he has a very successful history coaching...but its fine to feel skeptical because frankly im skeptical of Kelly lol

Oh dont get me wrong, I am not saying he cant come in here and do great things, thats entirely possible, I am just saying that there are guys out there who have more impressive recent resumes so Ill have to wait and see before I can determine if its a good move or not.

And looks like hes coached in the 4-3 a lot too, I think its still up in the air as to whether or not we make the switch, at least until we get a definitive statement from the coaches

Cleveland had a pretty solid D, with great LB play.

I personally do not like this move at all. His 4 years as a defensive coordinator teams averaged over 29 ppg against his defense. His defenses ranked 32, 26, 14, and 31 in yards and 30, 24, 11, and 26 in points. Does not look like a very impressive resume.

The Browns were 19th in points against and 23rd in yards against. Not too good either.

Where are you getting those stats from? 29 ppg over 4 years doesnt sound very realistic

I just don't like that he's bounced around so much...

Eagles coaching staff has been questionable hires everywhere. But gotta take a chance I guess....maybe he's then next coming of who knows lol

This is true, I saw them play a couple of times, and their D looked great.

Allowing points it's not all on the D's fault.

But I wanted the Ravens guy.

Davis's track record as d-coordinator doesn't seem too impressive, but I'm going to give him a chance. Hopefully, we can surround him with good talent.

Under Billy Davis the 49ers defense ranked dead last in YPG & 30th in PPG in 2005. Ranked 26th in YPG & dead last in PPG in 2006, while the Cardinals defense ranked 20th in YPG & 14th in PPG in 2009. In 2010 his defense ranked 29th in YGP & 30th in PPG.

In other words, he's very good!

    Oh.

We laughed at Cardinals fans for hiring Todd Bowles now they can laugh at us for hiring Billy Davis.
