Romo gets $3.5m this year and $5.5m next year. $9m total. #sfgiants.
Giants buyout arbitration with Romo. Seems like a good deal to me!

2 years of Romo for what would've probably gotten us 1 year of a broken Wilson, good deal.
Doesn't seem like they saved themselves any money (or bought out any free agent years).
What was Romo asking for in arbitration?

4.5M.
And speaking of Romo, I was stopped next to him at a light today on Monterey Blvd.

So they probably did save money, considering he would most likely have won arbitration and gotten a raise again next season.

Sergio Romo filed for $4.5MM and the Giants countered at $2.675MM

I think the Giants basically broke even on this deal. Probably would have met somewhere in the middle of those two numbers and then a raise again next season to $5-6MM (assuming Romo is the full time closer and has another stellar year).
With his small body and the subsequent injury concern probably is best they didn't go more years on this than they did though. Still a relative "deal" for a pitcher of his talent, despite not being a very thrilling extension.
The Giants have a tendency to pay slightly/moderately more than they have to in most cases to reward guys who are big in their success. Sometimes they'll get some guys on some really good team friendly deals like Bum and Cain(his first contract), but a lot of times they seem to have no issue rewarding guys with deals instead of trying to save a few bucks.
Not saying that's bad or wrong, but it seems to be how they do things. Even Vogelsong's contract last year, which now looks damn good, had some people questioning it. Sometimes their loyalty pays off for the best though.
Romo's been making the minimum his whole career basically so I don't mind them throwing him a few extra bucks. Plus, he kicks ***.
