Should the Patriots Consider Signing Tebow?

Would the pros outweigh the cons for the Patriots if they were to consider bringing in Tim Tebow? Obviously a lot of things would have to fall into place. I wouldn't be worried about BB finding a role for Tebow but Tebow would have to be willing to switch positions because there's no way he stays at QB. The Josh McDaniels connection makes us a realistic destination for Timmy Tebow but would it make sense? I'm going to list, what I think, are pros and cons of bringing in Tebow and I want to know what all of you think.

    Pros:

    1. His ability to make plays in space have to be respected no matter where he lines up. What's a defense going to do with Tebow and Hernandez in the backfield with Gronk and Lloyd split out wide and Welker in the slot?

    2. BB seems to prefer to carry 2 QBs on the game day roster in order to free up space elsewhere. Tebow could serve as a 3rd QB in an emergency situation.

    3. He's a positive presence in the locker room.

    4. Has the size and athletic ability to play as a FB or goalline HB in short yardage and goalline situations as well as lining up as a 3rd TE in heavy formations.

    5. Wouldn't cost a great deal to sign him.

    Cons:

    1. Obvious media circus that would follow

    2. Would he be content to switch postions or will he create a distraction due to his desire to play QB?

    3. Legitimate offensive weapon or waste of a roster spot?

    4. Even if BB and Josh McD create a run/pass option package for Tebow, it would take Brady off the field. That's definitely not a good thing.

Please feel free to add your pros and cons as well as dissect this idea of mine. Should the Patriots explore Tebow or steer clear completely?

Not worth the circus that comes with people thinking he should play more.

Yeah, and he still believes he is destined to play QB. He needs to come to grips with being a utility player.

Was going to ask if Tebow slept with your daughter or something, but then I remembered that it's Tebow

Based on what? He turns the locker room into an absolute circus!

Should the Patriots Consider Signing Tebow?
Why not? I expect the Patriots will do their due diligence on every FA as well as some they can trade for. Consider? Of course. Whether they should actually sign him is another matter.

    Cons:

    1. Obvious media circus that would follow

    2. Would he be content to switch postions or will he create a distraction due to his desire to play QB?
I don't think there would be one if the Patriots signed him, that is assuming the Patriots signed him to a position other than QB. Clearly he wouldn't be competing for the staring QB job anyway.

    Cons:

    3. Legitimate offensive weapon or waste of a roster spot?
This is the real question. There were a couple plays that stood out last year where he really seemed confused when he lined up in other than the QB spot. I didn't watch all the Jets games but I watched at least half of them on Game Pass. Is he really an offensive weapon?

Now if he can do this:

    4. Has the size and athletic ability to play as a FB or goalline HB in short yardage and goalline situations as well as lining up as a 3rd TE in heavy formations.
    I am all for it.

    2. BB seems to prefer to carry 2 QBs on the game day roster in order to free up space elsewhere.
You called this a pro, I call it a con. If they sign him, at least in my view, it must be clear he isn't a QB, won't be considered a QB and has a better chance of seeing god than actually playing QB for the Patriots.

I don't have a daughter, two sons that don't make themselves the center of attention, even though they are Captains of their teams and star players.

The media circus offends me, his lack of talent offends me, his smarmy "act" offends me. Get him out of the NFL, let him write a best seller and then hit the bible belt tent circuit where he belongs.

agree with subroc in thats its something that should be considered but is ultimately not terribly likely. His worth should be judged based on how well he fulfils the utility role- TE, FB, etc. His value as a Qb is pretty limited as the only way he gets in a game is if both Brady and Mallett are injured in the same game, a pretty unlikely scenario IMO. He certainly has the frame/ body to play other positions, but can he actually do it/ does BB believe he can? Not sure all of the criticism applied to him as a team player/ locker room guy is valid either, IMO that has more to do with external media pressure than Tebows actual actions. Either you like him or you dont and that produces a dramatic polarization of opinion, the truth probably lies somewhere in between. Nonetheless doesnt matter as much if you think he can play the utility role effectively, I personally doubt he can given his tenure with the "Jest" but again, that probably wasn't the most favorable environment for personal production and or accountability.

No thanks. Seems like a good kid, but would just take up a roster spot for somebody Pats could actually use.

I'd say the media is more to blame for the circus than Tebow himself. I never see him trying to self promote.

Do a google on: tebow "self promotion", and you get over one million hits. Among the first 15 hits are at least 5 stellar pieces on Tebow endless self promotion.
