Jason La Canfora: "No way" Raiders can pay Palmer $13 million

Carson Palmer - QB - Raiders
CBS' Jason La Canfora has been told there's "no way" the Raiders pay Carson Palmer's $13 million base salary.
La Canfora lumps Palmer into a group of quarterbacks who could be released in the next month or so. 33-year-old Palmer has gone just 8-16 over the last two seasons as a starter, and he has two years and $28 million left on his contract. He'll almost certainly have to take a pay cut to return in 2013.

Well, this would certainly do several different things, including feed into the Palmer restructuring and the Geno Smith rumors. This is going to be the most interesting offseason in a long, long time.

Yeah this has already been talked about and the Raiders would lose 17 mil to cut Palmer.

I guess they could still trade him though.

This is interesting info indeed. I'm not against moving on from Carson Palmer if McKenzie thinks this is for the best for the Raiders. I'm just surprised he would want to take that big of a cap hit this year. But I guess if you take the hit this year and just get it over with that will clear up a ton of cap space for next year.

The Geno Smith rumors make more sense if this is true.

Guess we will have to wait and see what happens once free agency starts up.

This should be an interesting offseason.

la confora is speculating....but i think palmer might work out a new deal...but even if he gets paid 13mil...i think we keep him...and if Dennis Allen knows his job is on the line...i dont see him wanting palmer traded...

What if DA's been told that his job is safe? That's not unreasonable. I think many on here are beginning to understand how bad the roster was, and how jacked up it was in terms of the salary cap. Maybe they're looking to make a full house cleaning this year. With no Palmer on the books next year, we'd likely be way under the cap.

He does cite league sources, so even though I usually take that with a grain of salt, La Canfora is usually on it petty well.

key is...speculation..a writer throws out his opinion or a suppossed rumor, and people take it as fact. How many times were we going to sign t.o.,or ouchocinco, or trade for haynesworth..etc..etc

Palmer will restructure, like he has before. He's a team first guy. It's not like he hasn't been paid handsomely since becomign a Raider. He understands what the score is andf will try to prove through his play he deserves to be paid like he does.

I bet Palmer restructures to get paid 4-5 million less. Maybe Reggie backloads it to 2014.

either way Mark Davis would **** TWO bricks if Reggie even floated the idea of releasing Palmer. Cap wise there's no way Palmer aint a Raider this year unless they find a trade partner, which is unlikely.

I think we discussed the fact that Palmer restructured last year and that because of that he can't restructure again this offseason.

    IF this means no Palmer,

Wonder if the Geno Smith rumors are true or Pryor is going to be our starter.

But about the cap hit releasing him, if you do it now, you get it over with and look for cap space in 2014. Supposedly we are already over the cap this off-season anyways, so I don't see the difference this year. RM wants his QB, RM will get his QB, and moving on from Palmer now will keep us from another off-season next year where his cap hit is even bigger I believe.

But if someone offers even a 7th rounder for Palmer, we should take it so we get out of his contract.

Carson I believe wants to play in California, which means stay in Oakland. I also believe he will restructure.
