Cardinals having a press conference at 1:30

Rumored it could be about Chris Carpenter and the possibility he is retiring.

I think that is what it might be.

They are saying it's not a signing or extension, it's not a front office guy, it's a current player. What else could it be? No one else is really around a retiring age besides Beltran and no one had any significant injuries. Carpenter is the only thing that makes sense at this point. But we will find out soon.

I will be incredibly sad if Carp is retiring but this does give Lynn and Miller the rotation spots needed for them both.

Maybe it's a PED admission. Maybe Matheny is leaving?

Maybe Carpenter is saying this will be his last season?

    Maybe he is leaving.

If he is leaving, Lohse just popped back on the radar.

Only way I want Lohse back is if we get rid of Westbrook which won't happen. I like Lohse a lot, more than most but its time to get these young guys going in the rotation and on the MLB roster

Hopefully it's not Matheny leaving, he needs money badly.

    So to those unaware.

Carpenter didn't retire, but doesn't believe he will pitch in 2013. Or that it is very unlikely.

That kind of pisses me off a little bit. Guna stay on the books but not going to attempt to get better. Dick move

They won't get by Miami and they'll be lucky if they can beat Boston. So since you're so high on Rose, I don't see him doing any damage at all come playoff time.

I'm sure he'll try to get better... its just not looking good.

I'm just gonna think of it as a bonus we are giving him for being the most important player in the 2011 WS run.

Rosenthal tweeted that insurance will cover part of his salary. I'd guess probably 3 or 4 million

if any player has ever deserved to get his 2013 salary, its him IMO
