not everyone is going to restructure...you can expect to get into the 15-20 million range, but certainly not up to 30 million

Agree 100%. The main guys you would ask to restructure in a perfect world-- Holmes, Sanchez, Harris-- in all 3 cases, why would you want to restructure and push their releases back even further (Sanchez, Holmes) and in the case of David Harris, would he even want to?
Same goes for guys like Cromartie.

About the only one on that list that might be willing to restructure is Mangold.

And let's be realistic, with guys like Jason Smith, Eric Smith, Bart Scott, and Calvin Pace, do you really need to be a GM to know those guys are gone given what you can save with all 4? I could be the GM-- and I have no experience whatsoever-- and I know those 4 are the 1st ones out the door given what I can save by releasing them, followed by Tebow and possibly Pouha.

In a perfect world, the Jets might have, as you say, 15-20 million to spend. I wouldn't expect many big splashes in free agency.
PSD's Rich Cimini! Telling it like it is, whether you like it or not!!!

When can you officially start cutting players?

I hate the idea of pushing more cap onto the 2014 season. Basically the only situation where we do anything next season is if we draft Warmack and Bernard and get Alex Smith and try to turn ourselves into the 49ers of 2011. But I'd be in favor of blowing this team up, minus dealing Revis, and start over again in 2014. I'd love to see us try to do the 2000 draft all over again with multiple first round picks. Trade way down out of the 9th pick and pick up a 2014 first, and try to get a 2014 first (or 2nd) for Cromartie. I want Bridgewater badly...if he picks up next year where he left off this year I'd give up both 1sts, both 2nds (assuming we pull off the trades I just mentioned), and a 2015 1st.

They just have to be off the books by march 12 which is the beginning of the new league year or there roster bonuses would count against us.. Expect pace, smiths,Scott to all be cut shortyly

The only way the Alex Smith goes to the Jets is if they trade for him. The 49ers could get at least a 2nd rd pick for him
