    Jack Leathersich in 2013?

    http://metsblog.com/mets-minor-leagu...aguer-in-2013/
During Wednesday’s Q&A with season ticket holders at Citi Field, J.P. Ricciardi, who serves as a special assistant to Sandy Alderson, was asked about a player in the farm system he is excited to see this season, and he said he has been very impressed with LHP Jack Leathersich.

“I think he’s one of the guys who could get a taste of the big leagues at some point this year,” Ricciardi said of Leathersich. “It’s nice to have a left-hander with a ‘strikeout-ability.’”

Ricciardi said it’s possible Leathersich could arrive in Flushing this season.

The Mets selected Leathersich in the fifth round of the 2011 first-year player draft. In 38 relief appearances with Savannah and St. Lucie last year, Leathersich went 2-6 with a 3.00 ERA, having allowed 51 hits, 31 walks and only three home runs while striking out 113 batters in only 72 innings.

I wonder how many players will pass through the Mets bullpen this year.

I see him taking the Edgin route if he continues to pitch well.

Good fastball, good curveball from the left side and the K rate is very promising.

    Can't wait to see him.

Obviously excluding starters, I say 23.

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I hope we see him up. It's hard to trust Edgin, he has given up 5 hrs in 25 innings pitched, but he's also got a good k-rate. Maybe this guy could be better in the not giving up a HR department. I'd rather see a kid up then one of those stiffs we signed.

Don't judge Edgin on his SSS. He was likely gassed by the end of the season anyway.

I'm not a stat whore, but watching some of those games the hrs he gave up where pretty crucial for the other team. I want to see him do good this year.

That too, he has the potential to be a really quality lefty for us and that was his first year, the composure was there and times it wasn't he has shown he can be a good relief pitcher. I'm pulling for him this year, some people even said he has closer potential (me personally anyone is better than Frank)

Leathersich has a nice athletic build and profiles as a relief pitcher which should help him move through the Mets system rather quickly. He brings a low-90s fastball in his arsenal which has nice movement (moves in on left-handed hitters, and away from right-handed hitters). He has a plus slider and his curve is a slower bender.

Leathersich has an amazing strikeout ratio as mentioned above. He mowed down 113 hitters in 72 innings pitched last season. That should be music to Mets fans ears to hear a reliever striking out hitters at that rate.
He outpitched his ERA as well as his FIP was 2.66 at St. Lucie.

Adam Rubin has him coming up this year too.

Sigh... Reading this makes me see that we could of dealt Niese in a package to try and get Upton, but thats over and done so im gonna let it die. It just sucks he's on the Braves now. I hope this guy can be another gem for us. Was he one of Sandys draft picks?

Yeah he was taking in the 5th round in 2011 but the front office has done a good job of finding pitching talent in later rounds.

I mean even Edgin was taken in the 30th round in 2010.

It's early but i like guys like Logan Taylor as well.
