Its true. Sandberg has a better career so far, but Utley is/was more talented.

How is Joey Votto there when he missed 51 games?

And RA Dickey belongs on that list over Sale imo..

Similar WAR values but RA Dickey had more strikeouts, more innings pitched, the better WHIP, the better H/9 rate, the better BB/9 rate, the better K/BB ratio, and he won the Cy Young.

No. Although Dickey is there statistically, Sale has a higher fWAR rate:

    per 200 IP
    Dickey: 4.04
    Sale: 5.13

This probably means that although their season stats are similar, Sale was a little more consistent, while Dickey was more bipolar (relatively speaking).

And, yes Votto is BY FAR the best 1B. His fWAR rate (per 600 PA) is a whopping 7.45, easily #1 among 1B with 450+ PA

Is that a sarcastic remark I see there? WAR is perhaps the most important single stat in all of baseball.

Well if Sale belongs over Dickey because he had a slightly better WAR value than i don't agree.

Dickey deserves the nod to be in the top 5 SPs last year imo.

And Votto doesn't belong there imo because of the games missed.

Sale's WAR rate is comfortably higher, not slightly higher.

Votto's production the last 2 seasons has easily exceeded any 1B in the majors.

Just type in WAR for pitchers, WAR for hitters, and WAR for relievers...not hard to see what he did

I know Votto had the highest WAR but i still think there is something to him missing 51 games last year.

As for Dickey, both fWAR and rWAR favor Sale but Dickey still belongs in his place imo.

Dickey had all those stats in his favor, not to mention they had similar K/9 rate (Dickey 8.9, Sale 9.0), the same HR/9 ratio, the same FIP (XFIP is unfair to knuckleballers to some extent because they naturally give up more home runs), and he also had 5 CGs and 3 shutouts to Sales 1 CG and no shutouts.

I'll take Dickey with all those stats in his favor, the similar to equal ones, and the fact that he won the Cy Young award.
