Some time on Wednesday, Chelsea says the customer who had left the receipt contacted her Applebee’s location, demanding that everyone be fired, from the servers involved to the managers.

In my old job, I had people yell at me all the time to have co-workers fired. Most of the time, it was because the customer was a pompous douche (kind of like Father Douchebag was in his receipt message).

Standard tips are 15-20% generally. For parties, they add 18% gratuity because it falls between 15 and 20% (it should be 17.5%, but it's beneficial to round up). And, it's convenient to have it figured into the check to 1. guarantee you get tipped and 2. make it easier for people to determine the appropriate tip.

In Canada, most restaurants I've been to charge 10%. Some 15% but those were restaurants that were selling like $35-40 steaks.

I've never had automatic gratuity over 15% (and I rarely get 15% automatic tip) so I suppose 18% seems like an outrageous number with for me and that's where my original post was based from.

It's possible. It's not unheard of for a waitress to make as little as $4/hour (maybe less in some places).

It's the restaurants policy. It will even say on the menus that parties 6 or more, or 8 or more, get 18% gratuity. It's not like he wouldn't have known about it ahead of time. The pastor was a dip ****.
