It's a depth signing, i doubt he even makes the team to be honest.

#Mets have signed Marlon Byrd to a minor league contract with a spring invite. He'll compete with Andrew Brown for that fifth OF spot.

He'll either pull an Andres Galarraga and retire 3 weeks into spring training or be cut and sign in Japan for a year....

So the Mets sign another player to a minor leaguer contract because hey, it can't hurt.

They should rename this team the Chicken Soup 9.
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."

    ROTFLMAO.

Last season he posted a .210 BA, a .243 OBP, and a .245 SA for an OPS of .488.

Maybe they're betting he'll try steroids or HGH this year.

Like it was said in another thread, FoC. He's not the greatest player, but he's a veteran who has had past success. We could catch lightning in a bottle, but this isn't a signing where Sandy is saying to himself "We got our guy now, now we should definitly win." We know what we're getting by signing him.

And no, this signing can't hurt, since it is a minor league deal. It's also not like those same types of comments get old etiher, but I'll keep waiting for a "Championship" or "Great job Sandy!" post.

If you think that is funny, then you might like the fact that he accomplished those numbers on steroids last year and got suspended 50 games for it.
