When you've got top 5 pick potential and you can get 5-7 years out of it, it's a great pick for the Celtics considering that they got him at 21. Add in the fact that it's the NBA where players usually picked that late are usually nothing more than an end of the bench reserve.

This. People are talking like we had the #1 pick, he sure was playing like he was in the top 10 of this draft class, and probably even higher than that. Plays with such a high IQ too which is why I am not too concerned with his back, he has never relied on athleticism to get the job done.

Backs are a tricky body part, but Jared is still young and surgeons are getting better and better. I think he has to shed a lot of weight before next season. Like it's been mentioned this isn't a guy relying on his physical gifts a la Dwight Howard.

All and all I think Sullinger still has a bright future in the league.

Totally agree. He can still come back from this.

Not to surprised by this. He had back issues going in to the draft but he was primarily perimeter player. The Celtics turned him intoa physical paint player. He did good but the Celtics should've developed him more physically for that type of play.
