Kobe is quiet popular though. Even during London 2012, the BBC (UK's main tv network) talked only about Kobe when the USA were coming out during the opening ceremony.

And really, imo people living in China don't care as much about the NBA as all of us think they do. Sure, they were into watching Yao when he was in the NBA. If we had access to watch McGrady in China, I would watch the CBA. Now that Yao isn't in the NBA, we can't assume they watch as much as we do. They probably watch their own league more than the NBA?
